Home Visits & Infant Play Group Protocol for Prevention of Illness
See GIRESD Guidelines for Student Illness for when not to do a home visit or not to have a student attend the play group.
Staff should not be visiting a home if anyone in that home is having an acute illness that might be contagious.
If homebound students are exhibiting minor symptoms of non-contagious illness and staff will be visiting: Wear glasses & a mask to prevent getting bacteria/virus in the nose, mouth, eyes if necessary. Wear protective N 95 mask to protect yourself if the homebound student exhibits coughing and sneezing. Simple masks are only good as a barrier to stop oral secretions from traveling through the air with coughing or sneezing, and would be put on the sick person only if they are around other healthy people. They are only used on those who can communicate well, as any mask can worsen shortness of breath Sanitize hands on arrival, before leaving, and in the car before touching the steering wheel. Disinfecting wipes can be used on car interiors if needed. Use a disposable cloth against your clothing where the child’s head will be resting Sanitize toys after visits with disinfecting wipes or store in a “dirty only” area until they can be cleaned Wear gloves if you will be in contact with body fluids
