Hutto and Vesta 22 Dantzler Hutto; and 23 24 Whereas, after graduating from Providence High School, he earned 25 a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina where 26 he served as president of Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity; and 27 28 Whereas, he married his beloved Harriet Lancaster, and together 29 they raised three fine sons: Brad, a member of the South Carolina 30 Senate married to Tracy; Bart; and Burt, who is married to Angie. 31 They have been blessed with four adoring grandchildren: David, 32 Alissa, Skyler, and Cara Hutto; and 33 34 Whereas, following his service in the United States Air Force, he 35 returned to the Providence Community of Holly Hill to join his 36 family in the farming partnership, Hutto Brothers & Sons; and 37 38 Whereas, he was a founding partner in the family business, Hutto 39 Stock Yard, Incorporated, which operated for almost forty years, 40 and a founding partner and manager of Farmers’ Machinery 41 Company, an International Harvester dealership, which served 42 farmers of the area for many years; and

[798] 2 1 2 Whereas, a lifelong member of Providence United Methodist 3 Church, he has served the church in numerous capacities, 4 including superintendent of the Church School, chairman of the 5 Board of Trustees, and chairman of the Grounds Committee; and 6 7 Whereas, he further served his community as a member of the 8 Board of Commissioners of OrangeburgCalhoun Technical 9 College, as a director of the South Carolina Livestock Association, 10 and as an appointee to the South Carolina Wildlife Commission 11 Law Enforcement Committee by Governor James B. Edwards; and 12 13 Whereas, in the late 1960s and early 1970s, he devoted his time to 14 coach the Providence Little League team and after his retirement, 15 he became a member of the Board of Directors when the 16 Providence Little League reorganized; and 17 18 Whereas, Charles Hutto continues to exhibit his profound 19 appreciation for his native community as a member of the 20 Providence Progressive Club and as a member of the Board of 21 Directors for the Holly Hill Lions Club; and 22 23 Whereas, a lifetime member of the USC Alumni Association, he 24 has displayed loyal support for USC athletics with his membership 25 in the Gamecock Club for over a half a century and with his 26 faithful attendance at home football and basketball games; and 27 28 Whereas, a devotee of the outdoors and hunting, he enjoys 29 widespread respect for serving as president of the Shuler Hunting 30 Club. He not only patiently taught his own sons to obey rules of 31 safety and respect the property of others when they began to hunt, 32 but he also instructed other young boys in the community; and 33 34 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate congratulate 35 Charles Leroy Hutto upon reaching the benchmark of eighty years 36 and express their gratitude for his service to his community, his 37 State, and his nation. Now, therefore, 38 39 Be it resolved by the Senate: 40 41 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 42 recognize and honor Charles Leroy Hutto, of Orangeburg County,
