Objectives:
-Demonstrate the proper and safe use of hand, portable and stationary power equipment. -Demonstrate the ability to apply mathematical concepts. -Ruler reading -Calculate board footage and project cost -Fraction/decimal conversions -Calculate board footage and project cost -Fraction/decimal conversions -Demonstrate personal safe work habits in the lab at all times -Demonstrate high quality craftsmanship through project fabrication -Demonstrate the safe handling and application of wood finishes
Description:
Woodworking I provides students with a general introduction to the safe and proper use of all types of woodworking tools. Hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power tools will be discussed in detail giving the student the knowledge and confidence to operate each tool safely and effectively.
Woodworking II course provides students with a more expanded study of woodworking tools and machines. Hand tools, portable power tools, and stationary power tools will be discussed in detail giving the student the knowledge and confidence to operate each tool safely and effectively.
Woodworking III & IV courses provides students with a more in-depth study of woodworking tools and machines. Major emphasis will be on project fabrication utilizing a variety of machining processes. Grading Policy: Students are graded using the “TOTAL POINTS” method. The student’s grade is determined by the points earned as a percentage of the total points.
A = 100% - 90% B = 89 – 80% C = 79 – 70% D = 69 – 60% F = 59% or less

All Urbana High School rules will be strictly enforced. 3. Students will be expected to follow the “Golden Rule”: Treat others, as you would like other to treat you. 4. Students are expected to be in their seats, quiet and ready to work when the bell rings. 5. Students are expected to pass all “Safety Exams” with 100% accuracy prior to using the power tools in the shop. 6. Students are expected to maintain order and cleanliness in the work lab. Tools and equipment are to be returned after use. 7. Absolutely no cell phones, PDAs, BLACKBERRYs or any other non-FCPS electronic equipment is to be brought to class. Instructor reserves the right to confiscate any electronic devices brought to class.
Consequences: 1. First Offense: Verbal Warning 2. Second Offense: Parent Contact 3. Third Offense: After-school Detention and Parent Contact 4. Fourth Offense: Office Referral
*The Instructor reserves the right to skip consequence levels for more serious offenses. Expectations: The students are expected to come to class with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and work. All projects that the students complete will be charged a project fee, to cover the cost of the supplies used.
Project Fee: Each project will carry a minimal project fee, to cover the cost of supplies, which the students are expected to pay. Special circumstances can be arranged as needed. Donations: Any types of donations are accepted and very much appreciated. If you have any tools, nails, screws, paint, stain or any other type of material that you would like to donate, please contact me and I can make the necessary arrangements.
