The Alumnus Environmental Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Studies Scholarship Scholarship Geography and Environmental Studies, to an outstanding student proceeding from Third to Fourth year of the honours program in Environmental Studies. Eligible students must be Canadian citizens and keenly interested in the environment and possess outstanding environmental awareness. Endowed in 2006 by Carleton Alumnus. Don Andrews Scholarship Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Dean of Public Affairs, to a Scholarship student proceeding from First to Second year, majoring in Criminology, with the highest overall average in all required first year courses for the Criminology major. Endowed in 2006 in honour of Professor Donald Andrews who co-founded the Criminology program and retired from Carleton after a stellar 35 year career of teaching and research. Architecture ’86 Scholarship Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Scholarship Architecture, to a Third year student participating in the Directed Studies Abroad (DSA) program. Endowed in 2006 by Architecture '86 in honour of their 20th reunion. Beattie-Haines Scholarship in Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually to an outstanding student proceeding from one year to another English Scholarship in the Department of English. Endowed in 2001 by friends and colleagues in honour of Munro Beattie and Charles Haines. Allan Buchanan Scholarships Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Dean of Engineering & Design, Scholarship to outstanding students proceeding from one year to another in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Department of Systems and Computer Engineering, School of Architecture and the School of Industrial Design. Endowed in 2005 by the family of Allan Raymond Buchanan in loving memory of his strengths as husband, father and grandfather, as well as in recognition of his contributions to the Ottawa community as a professional engineer, entrepreneur (co-founder of Lumonics Inc.), innovator, life-long learner, informal "educator" and concerned Canadian citizen.

Gregory Carpenter Memorial Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually to an outstanding student who is proceeding from one year to Scholarship Scholarship another in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Endowed in 2001 by friends, family and colleagues of Gregory Carpenter.

1 Evanov Radio Group Scholarship in Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Broadcast Journalism Scholarship Journalism and Communication to an outstanding student proceeding from Third to Fourth year in the Journalism program who has demonstrated particular promise in broadcast journalism. Endowed in 2006 by Evanov Radio Group Inc. Peeter Kruus Memorial Scholarship Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually to an outstanding student studying Technology, Society, Scholarship Environment - Energy & Sustainability or a student studying Environmental Science - Foundations for Environmental Chemistry. The scholarship was established in memory of Peeter Kruus to recognize the contribution he made to Carleton University and the academic community as a teacher and scholar. Endowed in 2005 by friends and family of Peeter Kruus. Ann and Bernie MacIsaac Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Engineering Scholarship Scholarship Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, to an outstanding student who is proceeding from one year to another in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering program. Preference will be given to a student that has been involved in student societies or on the student branches of technical societies. Endowed in 2006 by Ann and Bernie MacIsaac. Bernie completed his Master's of Engineering in 1972 and his PhD in 1975 and founded GasTOPS, a leading Canadian engineering firm. Monsanto Scholarship at Kroeger Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of Arthur Kroeger College Scholarship College of Public Affairs, to an outstanding Kroeger College student who is proceeding from one year to another. Endowed in 2000 by Monsanto Canada Inc. William J. Rainbird Engineering Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Chair of the Department of Scholarship Scholarship Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, to an outstanding student proceeding from Third to Fourth year of the Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Program. Eligible candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons). Consideration will be given to academic performance in Fluid Mechanics courses and participation in extracurricular activities. Endowed in 2006 by family, friends and colleagues of Bill Rainbird. Professor Rainbird was the first Chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical (now Aerospace) Engineering and was one of the 'sparks' behind the establishment of the Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering program at Carleton. A native of New Zealand, Bill was an excellent teacher, Ed Hilary-like in stature with a warm and generous personality.

2 William M. Lawson Scholarship in Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Dean of the Sprott School of Finance Scholarship Business, to an outstanding student proceeding from Third to Fourth year who is enrolled in the Finance concentration of the Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of International Business. Endowed 2006 by William M. Lawson, friends and colleagues on the occasion of his retirement.

CHIN Radio Scholarship in Undergraduate Donor Value $2,500. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the Journalism Scholarship School of Journalism and Communication, to a student graduating from the Bachelor of Journalism program that shows promise as a broadcast journalist, and has demonstrated a special interest in multicultural issues. Preference will be given to a student who is also multilingual. Established in 2006 by CHIN Radio.

CHIN Radio Scholarship in Music Undergraduate Donor Value $1,250. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the School for Scholarship Studies in Art and Culture, to an outstanding student in the Third or Fourth year of a music program, who shows promise in ethnomusicological studies. Established in 2006 by CHIN Radio.

Gulzar Haider School of Undergraduate Endowed Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School of Architecture Award Award Architecture, to an undergraduate student with the highest grade in first year studio. Endowed in 2004 by alumni, colleagues and friends of Gulzar, Director of the School of Architecture from 2000-2004. Pearson Education Forensic Undergraduate Donor Value $400. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Forensic Psychology Honours Thesis Award Award Psychology Committee of the Department of Psychology, to the undergraduate student majoring in Psychology or Criminology with a concentration in Psychology who submits the best honours thesis on a forensic psychology topic. Established in 2006 by Pearson Education Canada and colleagues in the Department of Psychology. The Taggart Group of Companies Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to a deserving student proceeding from one year to another in Bursary Bursary the Civil Engineering program. Recipient will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or protected person), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by the Taggart Group of Companies. Richard M. Zubrycki Bursary Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to a deserving student proceeding from Second to Third year in Bursary the Department of Law, Institute of Criminology and Criminal Justice, or School of Social Work. Recipient will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (landed immigrant or protected person), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Preference will be given to an aboriginal student. Endowed in 2005 by Shirley Zubrycki, friends and colleagues, in memory of Mr. Richard Zubrycki.

3 Firoz Ahmed Bursary Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another in Bursary the Eric Sprott School of Business. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by Firoz Ahmed, BComm/81. Pearson Education Forensic Undergraduate Donor Value $400. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Forensic Psychology Thesis Bursary Bursary Psychology Committee of the Department of Psychology, to an undergraduate student majoring in Psychology or Criminology with a concentration in Psychology who requires financial assistance to complete his/her honours thesis on a forensic psychology topic. Interested students may apply to the Forensic Psychology Committee of the Department of Psychology for funds to purchase materials/equipment or for travel necessary for data collection required for their thesis. Established in 2006 by Pearson Education Canada and colleagues in the Department of Psychology. Pearson Education Forensic Undergraduate Donor Value $700. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Forensic Psychology Travel Bursary Bursary Psychology Committee of the Department of Psychology, to undergraduate students majoring in Psychology or in Criminology with a concentration in Psychology who have been accepted to present their thesis (an oral presentation or poster is acceptable) at the Canadian Psychological Association’s Annual Conference. Interested students can apply to the Forensic Psychology Committee of the Department of Psychology. Established in 2006 by Pearson Education Canada and colleagues in the Department of Psychology. Padmavati Gupta Engineering Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another in Bursary Bursary the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2005 in honour of the late Padmavati Gupta by Krishna and Kamlesh Gupta. Sharron E.L. Firth Bursary Undergraduate OTSS Endowed & Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another in Bursary OSOTF2 the Industrial Design program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by friends and family of Sharron E.L. Firth. Andrew J. Donovan Bursary Undergraduate OSOTF2 Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another in Bursary Endowed any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Carleton University Alumni Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students entering Carleton University or Association Bursary Bursary proceeding from one year to another in any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2005 through the generosity of the Carleton University Alumni Association. Carleton University Alumni Undergraduate OSOTF2 Awarded annually to deserving students entering Carleton University or Association “Great Saves” Bursary Bursary Endowed proceeding from one year to another in any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2004 through the generosity of Scotiabank, the Ottawa Senators and the Carleton University Alumni Association. Marcy McKillican Memorial Bursary Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students entering Carleton University or Bursary proceeding from one year to another in any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by the Estate of Dorothy Jane Wright. Dorothy Jane Wright Memorial Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students entering Carleton University or Bursary Bursary proceeding from one year to another in any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by the Estate of Dorothy Jane Wright. Campus Community Campaign Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students entering Carleton University or Bursary Bursary proceeding from one year to another in any program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006. RRRA Executive 30th Anniversary Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students, living in residence at Carleton Bursary Bursary University. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by the Rideau River Residence Association Executive in honour of their 30th Anniversary.

5 Alfred and Annie Chan Bursary in Undergraduate OTSS Endowed Awarded annually to deserving students proceeding from one year to another in Engineering Bursary the Biomedical and Electrical Engineering program. Recipients will have demonstrated financial need, must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada (landed immigrants or protected persons), and must meet OSAP’s Ontario residency requirements. Endowed in 2006 by Alfred and Annie Chan.

OSOTF2 Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund Phase II was established by Gov. of Ontario to encourage companies & individuals to contribute to permanent endowment funds to assist students in financial need. Eligible cash donations raised by institutions were matched by the Province. Awards restricted to students who meet provincial residency requirements as defined by OSAP.

OTSS Ontario Trust for Student Support program has been established for 2005/2006 by the Gov. of Ontario to encourage companies & individuals to contribute to permanent endowment funds to assist Ontario’s college and university students with financial need. Eligible cash donations raised by institutions are matched by the Province. The OTSS recipient must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a protected person, must meet provincial residency requirements as set out in the Ontario Student Assistance Program’s 2005-2006 Student Eligibility and Financial Need Manual and must demonstrate financial need.

7 Muriel Foulger Art History Student Undergraduate and Endowed Old Terms Travel Fund Graduate Bursary Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Art History program co- ordinator, to deserving students in the Art History program who require financial assistance in order to meet travel or accommodation costs associated with optional study trips undertaken with the approval of the authorities responsible for the Art History program. Donors: Family and friends of the late Muriel Foulger, a long-time staff member and graduate of the University, in honour of her love of art and travel. Endowed 1992.

Muriel Foulger Art History Student Undergraduate and Endowed New Terms Travel Fund Graduate Bursary Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the School for Studies in Art and Culture, to deserving undergraduate or graduate students in the Art History program. The purpose of this fund is to assist with the costs of travel and accommodation for research or conference trips related to their studies. Donors: This travel fund was initiated by the family and friends of the late Muriel Foulger, a long-time staff member and graduate of Carleton University, in honour of her love of art and travel. The endowment has subsequently been increased through additional donations from alumni and friends of the Art History program. Endowed 1992. Revised 2006.

8 IEEE Canadian Foundation Undergraduate Donor Old Terms Scholarship Scholarship The sum of $3,500 is awarded annually to a student entering the Fourth year of an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science program. The student will have demonstrated a commitment to the McNaughton Centre and related IEEE activities. The McNaughton Centre is established to honour the late General Andrew G.L. McNaughton, scientist, soldier, politician, diplomat, and the inventor of the cathode-ray direction finder. The recipient will be selected by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design. Established 1985, revised, 1989, 2004. Donor: IEEE Canadian Foundation - established in 19955 as the International Electrical, Electronics Conference (IEEC), and renamed the IEEE Canadian Foundation in 1992. Established 1985. Revised 1989.

IEEE Canadian Foundation Undergraduate Donor New Terms Scholarship Scholarship Value $3,500. Awarded annually to a student entering the Fourth year of an Electrical Engineering or Computer Science program. The recipient will be selected by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design in consultation with the IEEE Student Branch Counselor, and will have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the McNaughton Centre and related IEEE activities. The McNaughton Centre was established to honour the late General Andrew G.L. McNaughton, scientist, soldier, politician, diplomat, and the inventor of the cathode-ray direction finder. The Colonel John By Award for Award Donor Old Terms History A prize awarded in alternate years to a student in a third-year history course who writes the best paper on a topic relating to Canadian history. Preference will be given to papers concerning the National Capital Region. Donor: The Historical Society of Ottawa. Established 1990. The Colonel John By Award for Award Donor New Terms History Value $500. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Department of History, to a student in a graduate or undergraduate history course who writes the best paper on a topic concerning the history of Ottawa or the Ottawa Valley. Donor: The Historical Society of Ottawa. Established in 1990. Revised 2006.

9 Josef Dlouhy Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Endowed Old Terms in Chemistry Awarded annually, when merited, on the recommendation of the Department of Chemistry to a student proceeding from First to Second year of an Honours program in Chemistry, Biochemistry or any Combined Honours program in Chemistry. Preference will be given to a student intending to study inorganic or analytical chemistry. Endowed in 1997 by Dr. Joseph Dlouhy in honour and memory of his father, Josef Dlouhy. Josef Dlouhy Memorial Scholarship Undergraduate Endowed New Terms in Chemistry Scholarship Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Department of Chemistry, to a student proceeding from First to Second year of an Honours program in Chemistry or any Combined Honours program in Chemistry. Preference will be given to a student intending to study inorganic or analytical chemistry. Endowed in 1997 by Dr. Joseph Dlouhy in honour and memory of his father Josef Dlouhy. Revised 2006.

Jeffrey MacLean Bursary Bursary Endowed Old Terms Annual bursaries will be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students in any faculty. The Dean of Graduate Studies and Research and the Director of Student Aid will choose the recipients upon the recommendation of the Deans of the Faculty of Arts and Social Science; Engineering; Public Affairs and Management and Science. A generous bequest from Jeffrey MacLean and gifts from family, friends and colleagues established this fund in 2000 in memory of Jeffrey MacLean, who attended Carleton University. Mr. MacLean spent 25 years as a Junior A Hockey League scout, general manager and coach. He served as general Manager of the Nepean Raiders and Ottawa Junior Senators and as a scout for the Ottawa 67’s of the Ontario Hockey League and the NHL’s Washington Capitals. His life was focused on helping young hockey players and providing them with opportunities both on and off the ice. Mr. MacLean’s legacy will enable students in financial need to attend or continue their studies at Carleton. New Terms Awarded annually to continuing student-athletes who are listed on a CIS/OUA Eligibility Certificate as a member of a Carleton University inter-university sport team. Recipients must meet CIS/OUA academic eligibility requirements Jeffrey MacLean Bursary Bursary Endowed to receive the award. A committee made up of the Awards Office and the Department of Recreation and Athletics will select the award recipients. A generous bequest from MacLean and gifts from family, friends and colleagues established this fund in 2000 in memory of Jeffrey MacLean, who attended Carleton University. Mr. MacLean spent 25 years as a Junior A

10 Hockey League scout, general manager and coach. He served as General Manager of the Nepean Raiders and Ottawa Junior Senators and as a scout for the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League and the NHLs Washington Capitals. His life was focused on helping young hockey players and providing them with opportunities both on and off the ice. Mr. MacLean's legacy will provide valuable financial assistance to student athletes in pursuit of their educational and sport goals while attending Carleton University.

Bette Spooner Award in Classics Scholarship Donor Old Terms Value $300. Awarded annually on the recommendation of the Department of Classics to a student in the Third or Fourth year of the Pass or Honours program in Classical Civilization. Donor: Family and friends of Bette Spooner. Established 1993. Margaret E. (Bette) Spooner Undergraduate Donor NewTerms Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Value $500. Awarded annually, on the recommendation of the Director of the College of the Humanities, to a student in the Third or Fourth year of the Bachelor of Arts in Classics and Religion. Established in 1993. Revised 2006.
