Job Description ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS Office of University Communications

Job Summary

This position is an administrative position with general responsibilities for helping advance the mission of Union University. More specifically, the person in this position works closely with the President and the senior level administration to develop creative and effective ways to tell the Union story, especially related to community events and denominational relationships.

Essential Job Functions

1. Developing an effective case for supporting Union University, particularly among alumni, parents, churches and friends in the community. 2. Managing the Office of University Communications within University Relations, and taking responsibility for building a team approach to the work. 3. Assisting development offices in designing, implementing and directing new initiatives for annual fund gifts, designated gifts as well as major and planned gifts. 4. Formulating and implementing strategies in relationships with Alumni Services to enhance alumni participation in support of Union University. 5. Serving as a key leader in University fund raising and other advancement-related events, currently including, but not limited to the annual scholarship banquet, the Union Forum, and annual meetings of the Southern Baptist and Tennessee Baptist Conventions. 6. Assisting with the development of communication tools for the annual Union video project and other special projects as directed. 7. Performing other duties and activities as assigned by the President or Senior Vice President for University Relations.

Other Job Duties

Interacts with: The Office of the President, Provost, Deans and Vice Presidents of the University.

Represent Union University to her constituencies in a professional and effective manner.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Communications and five or more years of experience in a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with excellent communication and presentation skills.

Successful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University’s Identity, Mission and Core Values, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life.

Physical Requirements

The work performed by this position is of a general office/administrative nature. It requires the ability to operate a computer, and communicate on the telephone and in writing. Work performed does require some walking on campus, extended periods of time sitting, and some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
