______(40) Reading Comprehension Read the following dialogue , then answer the questions below : When the Great War of 1914-1918 came , Fleming became an army doctor and carried 0n his work in France . When a soldier is wounded in a battle , it usually happens that a piece of his dirty clothing is carried deep into the wound by the bullet . The wound became bad or septic and disease spreads through the body . Sometimes an arm or leg has to be cut off or the man dies , not of the wound but from the poison in the body . This happened in thousands of cases in the Great War . Fleming knew already that a disease of this kind was caused by microbes which increased very quickly . It might be possible to kill them by washing the wound in an acid , called an antiseptic ; this was always done as soon as possible , but the soldiers still died in great numbers . In our blood there are red and white cells , which can only seen under a microscope . The white cells protect us against the microbes which cause diseases . If the white cells are defeated a person becomes very ill or may die . Unfortunately , the antiseptics which killed the microbes often killed the white cells too , and this prevented the wounded soldier from getting better .

They died immediately after that . The men had to pull the heavy sledges themselves . At last , Scott decided to send his men back except Dr Wilson , Captain Dates Edgar , Evans and Bowers . They still had a hundred and fifty miles between them and the pole . They walked day after day through the snow . They pitched their tent after twenty four hours because of the terrible snow storm . When they got nearer , they noticed a black tent with a red flag flying from it . It was for Amudson . He got there first . It was a great disappointment for Scott and his friends . The return voyage is a wonderful example of struggle and bravery . Evans became ill and grew weaker . He died a few hours later . The others hurried as fast as they could . Dates' feet were badly frost . He could hardly walk . He decided to kill himself so as not to make trouble . He chose death knowing that his friends could travel better without him . *********************************************************************** Note Taking Read the following passage :

The grains of the wheat plant form the basic ingredient of bread . The other ingredients of bread are yeast , sugar , water , salt and fat . In Europe , bread is usually made in five stages . The first is to make what is called "dough" . The yeast is mixed with sugar and water and after fifteen minutes it begins to "eat" the sugar . Flour , salt and fat are then put together and the yeast mixture is added . All these ingredients are then pressed with the hands for about ten minutes until they form a large ball of dough , After the dough has been made in this way , it is left to "rise" . As the yeast continues to eat the sugar , it makes the dough increase in size , and this second stage of rising takes about two hours . At the third stage that rising dough is pressed again and pushed into the shape the bread is to be . The dough must be allowed to rise again , this time for about an hour . It is then ready for the final stage of baking , which takes about forty-five minutes in a hot oven .

In note-form , write down the five stages to make bread :
