Name of Nominee: Kathi Ellison

Job Title: Sales

Employer: Ripley Entertainment

Nomination Category (check only one) x Attractions ___Accommodations ___Government ___Restaurant/Bar ___Retail

Nomination: When I first moved to St. Augustine, the love that the community has for Kathi was overwhelming. Everyone I met told me that she was someone that we needed to never let get away, and they were right. Kathi’s commitment reaches far beyond sales. Kathi loves her community. I can honestly say that I have never heard her say a bad word about anyone. She looks at the people that she does business with in the community as her family and she protects them like a mother bear. She frequently takes goodies and gifts to people, she volunteers her time to help at public functions where it serves the community, and she is always the first to volunteer to help with special events that help children or adults in the community in need. Kathi has a special kind of “Goodness” inside of her that is rare these days. While her acts benefit the community and all of the hotel and business people that she deals with in the community, but also the guests that visit our city. In addition to her other responsibilities, Kathi drives our accessible van to give tours for those who might not otherwise experience our city. She also fills in on phones, in ticket booths, or wherever needed. In the end, Kathi is a treasure. To know her is to love and respect her and what she does for our industry.

For nearly five and a half years, Ryan has lived and breathed the Cultural Events Division which operates the St. Augustine Amphitheatre and Ponte Vedra Concert Hall. Shane consistently demonstrates a positive attitude, and wants to always provide the best in class customer service possible to our guests. During the night shift he always makes sure our guests feel comfortable, relaxed, and secure. He is always willing to lend a hand by staying to help when it’s busy, covering shifts, or volunteering elsewhere when needed. His number one focus is with our guests, and it shows. Below is an example of what a guest had written to me and our director of sales after a family reunion had stayed with us in July of this year.

“One person whose name was Shane may have saved our family from a tragedy about 4 a.m. on Saturday morning. My deceased father's elderly son (my brother) is a Pastor in Ohio but has recently been diagnosed with dementia. We received a phone call from Shane to find out if he was with our group. He had left the room without his wife knowing it and apparently was going out the door to the pool. My sister Geneva went down and we called my niece who was in the adjoining room. It is a longer story but kudos to Shane. My niece only brought them as a bucket wish for their last trip to Fla. His wife has cancer and he is failing as well.”

Shane goes above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to our guests, and has demonstrated these great qualities time and time again over the course of the last few years.
