Materials: Crayons; markers; drawing paper; scissors; old magazines; newspapers; glue; large poster board or large piece of construction paper; box or bag; hole punch; string; pictures representing: happy, sad, hungry, thirsty, tired for each student; vehicle names on slips of paper; index cards with words; visit, wear, send, dance, watch, make a wish, give present; one set of Picture Cards for each pair of students; words he, she on index cards; words He, She, I on index cards three times each

Into Activities

Assessment: Posttest (25 minutes) Welcome students to their final day at class and have them sit at their desks. Tell that you will be administering a posttest to see how much they have learned. The test will take approximately 25 minutes.

Warm-up/Accessing prior knowledge (5 minutes) Welcome the class. Show the students the Picture Cards for the following: airplane, bike, boat, bus, car, helicopter, motorcycle, subway, taxi, and train. Introduce one Picture Card at a time. Continue with the Warming Up activities on page 89.

Through Activities

Page 89 Student Book (10 minutes) Have the students open their books to page 89. Allow students to talk about the pictures and encourage them to identify the words. Follow the rest of the instructions for Using Page 89. You will need a cassette recorder for this activity.

Page 90 Student Book (10 minutes) Help students find page 90 in their books. Ask students to identify the car and tell what is happening in the picture: “A man is driving his car.” Play the recording. Explain that we use the question word how when want to know the way something is done. Continue with the remainder of the instructions for Using Page 90.

Page 90 Teacher’s Guide (10 minutes) Do Having Fun! Matching. Place the Picture Cards in one column on the board. Write the transportation words in a second column but in a different order so that students will have to match the word to the picture. Follow the rest of the instructions for Matching on page 90.

Page 91 Teacher’s Guide (5 minutes) Show students the transportation picture cards and practice saying each word with them. Follow the rest of the instructions for Warming Up on page 91.

Page 92 Student Book (5 minutes) Do Using Page 92. Help students find page 92 in their books. Read the directions for this activity and ask students to read with you. Ask students to talk about each picture and to identify the vehicles. Follow the rest of the instructions for Using Page 92.

Page 92 Teacher’s Guide (10 minutes) Do Having Fun! Listening Game. Place the Picture Cards on the board and draw a simple picture of a boy and a girl. Label the girl she and the boy he. Follow the rest of the instructions for the Listening Game on page 92. ______

Page 93 Student Book (5 minutes) Have students open their student books to page 93. Play the recording. Explain that we can ask about a person’s condition or state by asking, “How are you feeling?” The response includes an adjective such as happy, sad, thirsty, or tired. Students at a higher level of language proficiency can add additional adjectives. Continue with the rest of the instructions on Using Page 93. You will need a cassette recorder for this activity.

Page 94 Student Book (10 minutes) Help students find page 94 in their books and follow the instructions for Using Page 94. Help the students to see that when the letters are unscrambled, they form the word happy. Follow the rest of the instructions for Using Page 94.

Page 94 Teacher’s Guide (10 minutes) Do Having Fun: How are You feeling Books on page 94. Show students a completed book that you have prepared ahead of time. Your book should have pictures that show happy, sad, hungry, thirsty, cold, hot, and tired. Continue with the rest of the directions for How are you feeling Books on page 94.

Page 95 Student Book (10 minutes) Review vocabulary from this unit by showing students transportation Picture Cards and asking them to identify the vehicles. Ask the students to find these pictures in their books. Do the remainder of the Warming Up on page 95.

Page 96 Teacher’s Guide (10 minutes) Do Using Page 96 in the Teacher’s Guide. Help students find page 96. Read the question at the top of the page and then choose one of the versions in Using Page 96 to do with your students.

Pages 97 and 98 (20 minutes) Follow the Warming Up review of vocabulary on page 97 of the Teacher’s Guide. Show students the Picture Cards and them to tell you what they see. Then follow the instructions for Using Page 97 and Using Page 98, which are reviews Units 9 and 10.
