The Sovereign God Part 5

THE SOVEREIGN GOD pt5 Pastor Charles Holmes 01-09-2013

LET’S TAKE ANOTHER INSTANCE OF THE SOVEREIGN GOD AS HE EXERCISES HIS POWER.

WORKS.IS.FAITH.EXPRESSED_ SHREVEPORT.LA V-7 N-1 FRIDAY_ 65-1126 168 David, with a shepherd's sling, expressed to the whole Israelite army, the faith that he had in their God. Now, there was Goliath on the other side, and he stood out there and made his boasts. Many times bigger than David, he had fingers fourteen inches long. And he was a mammoth, big fellow, the Philistine giant. And here was David, the smallest one, he was even too little to be in the army; too much of a runt, they couldn't use him. So, his brothers was out there in the army. And, then, Goliath was making his boasts. 169 But David, now remember, it was revealed to David. He thought, "Here is the armies of the living God, standing in their own land, and there's a boasting uncircumcised Philistine out there." We'll call him "cancer" tonight, we'll call him "paralytic." 170 Why, David was no kind of a match for him, not with any kind of a weapon; he was no match. That man's shoulders was probably ten, twelve foot across; he was probably standing fourteen, fifteen foot high. A spear like a weavers needle, probably twenty foot long, the blade on it maybe four foot across. 171 And a little David standing there with a little piece of leather, goatskin or sheepskin, with two pieces of string tied to it. But it was revealed to him! Revelation struck him! Amen! He said, "The God that took me out of the paws of the bear, that took me out of the paws of the lion, how much more will He deliver that uncircumcised Philistine in my hand!" 172 His brothers, way more able to do it. Saul, head and shoulders above his army. But, you see, it wasn't revealed to them. Amen. There it is: they believed it could be done, they believed that God could do it, but it wasn't revealed to them; but it was revealed to David. So there's the difference, right there. If it's absolutely revealed to you that God is going to heal you, you're--you're going to get it. [Blank.spot.on.tape--Ed.] You're going to get it. I don't care what's wrong with you, what the odds, it may be worse than David and Goliath. But if it's revealed to you... 173 And notice, when it's revealed, David become fearless. He said, "Today I'll cut your head off!" Amen. Quickly! Our God, by grace, in that crucial moment when decision had to be made, that same God that produced the grace in that day, and dropped that seed of faith in that little hunchback-looking boy, seeing in his heart; that same God, in this crucial moment, could take that woman from the wheelchair, that man there, if you can believe it, with all her trouble. When that little grain of faith is revealed to you. And I don't care how long it takes,... 174 Now notice the giant, on the other side, didn't believe it; neither will the cancer. He laughed, he said, "Am I a dog? You send a kid out here to fight me?" Said, "I'll pick you up, on the end of my spear, and let the birds eat your flesh." Why, he had all the... all, everything for his side. 175 But, you see, that didn't shake David at all. Why? It was revealed to him. He had faith in what he was doing. He knowed he was going to do it. And he did it, is because that it was revealed to him and he knowed where he's standing.

HEBREWS 11:36-40 36 And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: 37 They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; 38 (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:

HEBREWS 11:40 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.

TOKEN_ JEFF.IN V-2 N-19 SUNDAY_ 63-0901M 88 As Hebrews 11 says, "All these who wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, and was destitute, and all these things that they done, yet was not made perfect without us." 89 And the Church in this day, that's received the Token, of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, that the Blood has been shed and that the Holy Ghost is upon the Church; without us, then, they cannot raise. But they're depending on us, for God promised He would have It, and somebody is going to be there. I don't know who it's going to be, but somebody is going to receive It. The only one thing I'm responsible, is to preach It. It's God's business to look out for that predestinated seed. There is going to be there, though. Because, they're going to be there, each one of them, one with the other; the water age, the Blood age, and now the Token age of the Holy Ghost.

IS.YOUR.LIFE.WORTHY.OF.THE.GOSPEL_ JEFF.IN V-5 N-5 SUNDAY_ 63-0630E 258 Look at Polycarp, standing for the Name of Jesus baptism, against the Roman Catholic church. And they burn him to a stake; tore down a bathhouse and burn him. Look at Irenaeus, the rest of them, that suffered for this cause. That's lives worthy. 259 Look at what Paul said in the Book of Hebrews, 11th chapter. Said, "They were sawed asunder, pulled apart; wandered about, in sheepskins and goatskins, and was in desert, and destitute and so forth; lives that this world is not worthy of." There you are. That life is worthy of the Gospel. How is mine and yours going to stand in the Day of Judgment, with men like that?

WHY WERE NOT THESE OTHER MEN OF FAITH DELIVERED LIKE THE OTHERS?

ACTS 7:51-60 51 ¶ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. 54 ¶ When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, 58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. 59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

LOOK AT PETER BEING TAKEN OUT OF THE PRISON.

Peter while he was praying. He come as a Light through the--the prison, went in and delivered him, opened the gates in front of him, and took him out. Is that right? He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. If that isn't the faith that was once delivered to the saints, I don't know it. That's right. Peter was in prison and the light shined in on him, the Pillar of Fire was the light, come into the prison and delivered him from the prison. Paul was stranded fourteen days and nights on the ship, without any moon, stars or any... All hopes was gone they'd ever be saved. He went down in the bulkhead of the ship and prayed, come back up, the shackles on him, still preaching the Gospel. Shaking the chains on his arms and say, "Be of a good courage, for the Angel of God, Whose servant I am, stood by me last night, saying, 'don't fear Paul, thou must be brought before Caesar, and lo, God give all those that saileth with you, to you.' And I saw in the vision the little ship is to be wrecked on a certain island. So, therefore brethren, I believe God that it'll be just exactly the way He said it would be."

LOOK AT SAMSON, WHY DID GOD GIVE HIM MORE PHYSICAL STRENGTH THAN ANY OTHER HUMAN BEING?

JUDGES 15:16-20 16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men. 17 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramathlehi. 18 ¶ And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised? 19 But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof Enhakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day. 20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
