What I Learned 1. What issues teachers/administrators are dealing with at Pickens 2. I learned more about Pickens Tech. College more importantly, about the challenges facing educators, students and employers 3. I learned how little I know about education now and what was available to our young workforce 4. Pickens Tech has a bit more programs than just the one I am involved with. Pickens Tech is a relative unknown outside Aurora. Soft Skills and learning about how learning is active here. 5. Where PTC students come from. The need to connect with Aurora business. New technical “college” has opened in area (for profit) 6. In the discussion with the group we had the same thoughts and how we can focus on our input for improvement 7. ….. 8. There is a need to give input from an outside perspective 9. The articulation program for RT 10. Many ways to reach non-trad students 11. Pickens NCA Cycle 12. Executive Board is not the Adv. Committee within PTC, role on committee 13. Movement, "soft skills" & development of creativity 14. My current interactions as a member of the Business Advisory Council proved to be helpful in offering input during the meeting. 15. What NCA is all about and the importance of having it - It's benefits 16. That my assumptions about current soft skills of students is viewed as lacking to employers 17. The challenges of funding 18. How I Will Use It 1. Provide better support to Pickens 2. Working with others. I will be more aware of how people need "Soft Skills" 3. Knowing now what is lacking, I can give thought to solutions to some of the issues we're facing 4. I'll be more interested in following this college 5. Notify Pickens when I learn of gaps in programs. Think about and input ideas for getting Pickens info out to industry 6. ….. 7. Good feedback - believe they'll be a good sounding board 8. ….. 9. I will use it to argue with Mark K. 10. Marketing 11. ….. 12. Keep eyes & ears open on ideas, suggestions developed that may help our group 13. To promote PTC & what future needs with work for special population 14. In assisting Jacki Sloan and Kelly Powers in developing a customer support program in the business curriculum 15. ….. 16. To continue to look at soft and transferable skills 17. Helping with the grants 18. Be able to give more informed input 19. Support development process 20. What I Valued 1. Connections & networking opportunity to provide support 2. How much people at PTC have thought about how to meet the needs of students and employers 3. The ability to meet fellow members 4. The fact that my opinion counted 5. The dedication of PTC staff. The dedication for mission. 6. ….. 7. Appreciated business's interest in helping us be exceptional 8. ….. 9. Networking 10. Collaborative discussion 11. Small committee discussions, staff openness for suggestions, the Exec Advisory Committee portal on website 12. Opportunity to meet teachers within the programs offered 13. Opportunity to connect with the different programs & organizations 14. Being invited to participate and an opportunity to utilize my resources in an effort to support the continued success of PTC 15. That my input in important and is needed 16. The group assignments 17. Interaction 18. Working & sharing ideas that will improve the learning process 19. Collaborate, opens to contribute 20. Opportunity for dialogue and generation of many ideas
What Did’t Work or What I’d Change 1. ….. 2. ….. 3. 2 hours seemed short to be very productive 4. The meeting time frame was short. Maybe more frequent meetings or committee meetings 5. Need to teach skills to help students sell themselves (need for 12-18 job changes in career) 6. ….. 7. ….. 8. ….. 9. Time. One person sort of dominated the discussion 10. It worked well 11. Extend the meeting time by a half hour…it's ok if we go short on time but makes for more discussion time 12. ….. 13. ….. 14. All is fine 15. We had to rush through things, time restraints 16. ….. 17. Making sure everyone understands the whole process 18. Not long enough to thouroghly discuss the issues 19. Meeting needs coffee:) 20. …..
