How to make an image appear in a header of a form or letter which is printed via ALEPH

There are two ways of making an image appear in a header of a form or letter which is printed via ALEPH:

1. Via a change to the actual XSL 2. Via NewPrintType and the HTMLPrint program

Note:

 When using option one “Via a change to the actual XSL” the image will be seen in both print preview and when actually printing (on the paper or in email)  When using option two “Via NewPrintType and the HTMLPrint program” the image will be seen when actually printing (on the paper or in email) but not in GUI print preview.

First we will explain option one, and then option two

Option One: Via a change to the actual XSL

ONE

Change a “funcs” file in the directory of the forms (b y default the directory of the forms is $data_root/form_lng of the bibliographic library). Here we will change $data_root/form_eng/funcs.xsl under USM01. First we backup the file:

USM01-YOELK>>cd $data_root/form_eng/ USM01-YOELK>>cp -p funcs.xsl funcs.xsl.no.image TWO

Add the following line to funcs.xsl:

USM01-YOELK>>diff funcs.xsl funcs.xsl.no.image 32c32 < --- >

Here is where it appears (in our case) in the file. It can go wherever and however the user wants:

THREE

If the change was made directly on server file then run UTIL I 6 and reconnect FOUR

Print a letter and see that the icon (in this case a pile of books) will appear in the letter. It will appear in both print preview and normal printing.

FIVE

See that the image also appears in email. Please note: when viewing a letter from a location/driver where the icon is not accessible it will not appear. If a library decided to send / configure a letter with a reference to an icon, the icon will not be accessible/displayed to patron if the library designed a letter with an icon which points to a file that is not accessible from all locations. Note: Link to image in our case was added to funcs.xsl because we wanted it in letters which use funcs.xsl. The letter “bor-list” (printed above) uses funcs.xsl:

Option Two: Via NewPrintType and the HTMLPrint program ONE

In the file AL500\alephcom\tab\alephcom.ini put NewPrintType=Y

TWO

Choose image which you want to be used in your header or footer for the forms. Be sure it is placed on the PC network in a place where all PCs have access. If a PC will try to use it and that PC does not have access then it will not print. Here it is in directory L:\ylk_images, file is called ylk_library_logo.jpg

THREE

Double click file on PC AL500\alephcom\bin\HTMLPrint.exe. This will open the Bersoft HTML Print program. Note that when you double click this file to edit the configurations it will in turn update the file on PC AL500\alephcom\bin\HTMLPrint.ini Using HTMLPrint.exe is safer and easier than editing HTMLPrint.ini manually. However, if you later want other users to have the same configurations then you can distribute the HTMLPrint.ini file

FOUR

Choose menu “File > Edit Configuration File” FIVE

Choose “Footer/Header” tab and click the “Select a picture file” button. Do so in the “Left”, “Center” or “Right” field according to where you want the picture to appear.

SIX

Choose the desired file SEVEN

See that it properly gets entered into the field EIGHT

Click “OK” to close the dialog box.

NINE

For general information (not necessary) see that this parameter was added to AL500\alephcom\bin\HTMLPrint.ini

TEN

Choose “Normal Printing” in GUI ELEVEN

Print a letter and you will see the image in the header
