LAWRENCE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION Regular Monthly Meeting 7:00 p.m. March 8, 2011
The Lawrence County Board of Education met for a regular monthly meeting on March 8, 2011 at the central office. The meeting was called to order by Christine Garner, Vice-Chairman, and the invocation was given by Mr. Heath Grimes.

ADOPTION OF AGENDA APPROVED The agenda was adopted as presented after item # 12 was pulled for reading. (Supt/Vinson/Bradford/4-0)
5. Approve adoption of the agenda.
AGENDA ITEMS #6-- #19 APPROVED WITH ONE VOTE Agenda items #6 through #19 were approved with one vote. (Supt/Burch/Vinson/4-0)
MINUTES APPROVED 6. Approve minutes of the February 8 and 16, 2011 meetings.
PERSONNEL ITEMS APPROVED WITH ONE VOTE WITH EXCEPTIONS All personnel items were approve with the above collective vote.
As required by Section 16-9-23 of the Laws of Alabama Relating to Education, and as Superintendent of the Lawrence County School System, I make the following written personnel recommendations for action by The Lawrence County Board of Education: Heath Grimes Superintendent and Board Secretary
LEAVE OF ABSENCE 1. Rodney Scott-LCHS, Leave of Absence for On the Job Injury effective February 25, 2011 and March 11, 2011. 2. Jane Cowart-RAH, extend FMLA leave of absence through March 22, 2011. 3. Sherrie Martin-ELMS, Leave of Absence for On the Job Injury effective February 18, 2011. 4. Karen Hughes-RAH, extend FMLA leave of absence through March 31, 2011. 5. Courtney Boyll-ELMS, Leave of Absence effective March 1, 2011 through March 18, 2011. 6. Paige Barringer-MMS, FMLA leave of absence through February 21, 2011 through March 11, 2011.
RETIREMENT 1. Deroma Montgomery-HTHS, teacher, retirement effective the end of the 2010/2011 school year.
AMEND EMPLOYMENT 1. Kallie Terry-ELMS, amend temporary, part-time teacher employment effective January 3, 2011 through February 28, 2011. (Boyll leave)

11. Approve to allow the flexibility of federal funds for FY’11 due to a precipitous decline in local and state revenue.
12. Approve Resolution of Commendation for RA Hubbard Girls Basketball.
13. Approve to contract with Neil Hyche, Capstone Consultants, Inc., to conduct the Superintendent’s state required PEPE evaluation at a cost of $200 per day plus travel and expenses. Also contract with Dexter Rutherford to conduct PEPE evaluations for all principals and supervisors currently on full cycle not to exceed $3,600.
14. Approve contract with ESG Securities to monitor fire and burglar systems at Family Education campus for FY 11 not to exceed $200. Funding: Even Start
15. Approve agreement with Security Benefit to provide NEA 457 SFR Program (Deferred Compensation Plan and Trust).

Funding: Local School B) Hatton Elementary School to contract with Matthew Dudley for mowing and grounds upkeep, not to exceed $4,000 for remainder of school year through November 2011. Funding: Local School C) Hazlewood Elementary School to contract with Gil Jaggers to maintain campus grounds not to exceed $2500. Funding: Local School

Executive Session At this time the board voted to go into an executive session to discuss good name and character and job performance. (Supt/Burch/Vinson/4-0)
Upon returning to the open meeting no action was taken by the board as a result of the executive session.
