Who Are Your New Chapter Officers?  Communication is key! That’s why it’s important that each chapter submite a Report of Chapter Officers Form for the 2014-2015 biennium.  Form is attached to the email and should be submitted to both International and Xi State by May 15th.

Xi State Convention: We Want You There!  You don’t want to miss the upcoming Xi State convention, June 5-7, on the campus of the University of the South in Sewanee! Besides the comraderie, workshops, and great food, the assembly will be voting on a major revision of the Xi State Bylaws and Xi State Rules.  Both current and incoming chapter presidents will be honored at a banquet on Friday night.  Meet International 1st VP Carolyn Pittman and hear what’s going on at the international level.  Form is available on the Xi State website. The registration fee goes up after May 1st so act quickly.

Breast Cancer Awareness Walk  Alpha Rho chapter invites everyone to join the 6th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Friday morning of the convention.  The walk will begin at Quintard and the group will walk to the cross and back, a distance of 0.8 miles.  Participants are encouraged to wear pink for the walk!

Chapter Displays for Xi State Convention  Who: Xi State Chapters Theme: Focus on the Real Common Core  What: Create a tri-fold or other display to showcase your officers and/or special projects  MAKE IT EYE CATCHING Why: To show other chapters who you are and what you are about  Materials Needed: White tablecloth/covering for your assigned table.  When: Thursday, June 5; set up time 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Where: Convocation Hall (Sewanee)  Please pick up your chapter name plate on Thursday as you set up your display. Name plates will be in a box at the front of the hall. Return the name plates to the box in front of the hall when you take down your display on Friday.  Contact Edna Clemons with questions at [email protected]

Membership Committee Has Big Plans for the State Convention  On Thursday, a special prize drawing will be held for all first timers who attend the Orientation Tea.  At the Awards Luncheon on Friday, we will recognize the chapter with the most members in attendance at the convention and the chapter which has the highest percentage of members at the convention. The awards will be based on registration as of May 15, so be sure to register early. Silent Auction Items for Xi State Convention  Encourage members to start gathering items for baskets, individual items, or monetary donations. There is no “theme” this year.  If no chapter members are attending the Xi State convention, the chapter may still participate by sending a donation to Xi State treasurer, Nancy Davis ($25 minimum)  Proceeds benefit Xi State Leadership Programs.  The chapter raising the most money will receive a trophy!

Looking Ahead to 2016 International Convention  At the Xi State convention, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase DKG embroidered bags, ribbons, throws, and other items. ALL collected money will go to help fund the 2016 convention.  Here is an excellence opportunity to purchase that special gift for your current or incoming chapter presidents or other officers, your friends, a new member, door prizes for meetings, as well as yourself while supporting Xi State.  Supplies are limited----don’t miss out!

TN Breakfast at International Convention  “Start Your Engines!” at the TN breakast in Indianapolis. Remind your chapter members who are planning to attend the International Convention this summer that the TN breakfast will be held on July 30th at 6:45 a.m.  Mail your $30 payment to Sherrie Collins, 112 Clinch View Drive, Corryton, TN 37721 or plan to pay at the Xi State convention in June.  Deadline: June 14

Xi State Nominations Recommendation Due October 31, 2014  Nominations are now open for the 2015-2017 biennium. Nominations are for state officers (president, first VP, second VP, recording secretary, corresponding secretary) and elected committees of Personnel, Nominations, and Finance.  Nominations form is available on the Xi State website and is also attached to this newsletter.  Questions? WANTED: A Few Good Vendors  The Arts & Personal Enrichment Committee needs vendors for the Xi State Arts Retreat Sept. 19-20 in Dunlap, TN.  This is the perfect venue for chapters and individuals to sell their wares so make plans now.  Contact Edna Clemons at [email protected] for more information.

Legislative Update  Fourteen chapters earned the Legislative Award this year for their work on behalf of teachers and students in TN.  The Legislative Committee encourages each chapter to get involved with issues that affect the educational system and to keep informed about what’s happening in the state legislature and with local school boards.

International Survey  International President Dr. Beverly Helms invites all DKG members to respond to the online survey regarding the services provided by the Society Headquarters during this biennium.  The survey will remain on the Society website until May 30.
