I. Call to Order (Roll Call) - called to order at 8:02pm a. Phillip Jester - yes Christopher Lee Brenes - yes Brandon Ivey - yes Yanni Lai - yes Kennith Echeverria - yes Lucky Prachith - yes Adam Sommers - yes b. Vote to approve the minutes from the prior session Vote approved the minutes from prior session. II. Reports of the Officers a. Report from Rules and Judiciary Committee Chair Chair Jester reports on review of student code. b. Report from the Rules and Judiciary Committee Vice-Chair This report has been passed due to absence. III. Special Orders a. Princess Collins – first year representation on board. Gave brief introduction, explained her opinion on racial integration on campus and feels , also discussed the importance of ongoing sexual assault case and its pertinence to women on campus. Appealing to board to legitimize her position. b. Chair Jester opened questioning session regarding Collins i. Board Member - What will student advisory to chancellor be responsible for? Collins - To correspond with chancellor in acquiring student feedback on a larger scale ii. Board Member -What will be composition of the committee? Collins - 3 minority, 6 male, 6 women, diverse board to greater represent entire student body. iii. Board Member - Personal goals of Chair Collins? Collins - aims to increase her availability to all students on campus, hoping to greater hear from entire spectrum of campus community. iv. Qualifications of Chair Collins? Collins - Class president of high school, started her own organization interested in furthering awareness of scholarships for students.
Motion was made to pass favorably, this motion was seconded and consented.
IV. Bills and Resolutions a. SCB-98-XXX Bill to Appoint a member of the Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor Bill was consented b. SCB-98-XXX Bill to appoint the members of the student undergraduate teaching and staff awards co-chairs Discussed importance of student feedback on awarding, progress being made toward ensuring validity of awards and their offering to rightful teachers. i. Chair Jester opened board to questions. 1. Speaker Simon – Main ambitions of improvement for committee? Chair Cole - Hoping to get enough student perspectives, making sure teachers are recognized appropriately by getting more feedback on the smaller aspects of teacher's merit. 2. Board Member - Award for undergrad TA? Chair Cole - Did not object to idea of award in the future. 3. Board Member - Any ideas about finding members for board? Chair Cole - Stressed advertisment of committee through emails and word-of-mouth on campus to find competent students, also looking inside current congress. Caroline and Cole will oversee this process. Chair Jester makes motion to split bill due to absense of Caroline, motion was seconded and consented. Bill was motioned to pass favorably, motion was seconded and consented, for Cole Bloom. V. Notices and Announcements a. Discussion of First Chapter of Student Code - Ch1. Title 1. discussing parlimentary rules, opened room for questioning. Board Member - Section 10, what is a journal? A record of minute and bills passed, archived. o Chair Jester suggested further use of precedence before meeting decisions. Informed committee on timeliness of minutes posted. Board Member - Section 11, where do you find information on current fees for organizations? o On relevant interest groups' websites, Chair Jester suggested making entire page for fees. Board Member - Section 109, safety training, suggestion was made to have one. o Speaker Cole assured one will be organized b. Update on what bills we may be seeing in the future Chair Jester explained future editing and proposition of Bills, possibility of creation of new agencies in near future. Chair Jester suggested on conversation on changing the student fee. Speaker Simons assured board anyone is allowed to propose Bill on any subject for any purpose, offered his help on formatting of bills for any Chair interested. Chair Jester explained 1 in 10 students on campus must be behind regular student if they were interested in changing constitution, suggested Chairs offer their assistance to those students. Speaker Simons explained difference between student constitution (much harder to edit) and student code (easier to bring forth bills to change). Bills for code moves from R and J to full congress. Speaker Simons explained example of changing code - he/she to them/they.
Motion was made to pass without prejudice for Caroline to join Cole on teacher award Bill. Motion was seconded and consented. VI. Adjournment Motion was made to adjourn, motion was seconded and consented. Meeting is adjourned.
