MINUTES North Dakota Teacher Center Network (NDTCN) February 6, 2014 10 a.m. CST IVN Participants Teacher Center directors in attendance were NDTCN President Jennifer Carlson, NDTCN Vice President Sandy Zahn, Valeria Becker, Cynthia Jelleberg, Darlene Pullen, David Richter, and Darlene Schwarz. Advisory Committee members Glenda Fauske, Kim Jones, and Marilyn Weiser attended, along with Jackie Nye of Clearwater Communications. Directors Missy Hutter and Dawn Olson were not in attendance.

Welcome & Introductions President Carlson called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.

Approval of Minutes Pullen moved to approve the minutes of the Oct. 16, 2013, meeting. Zahn seconded the motion, and it passed.

Financial Report Approval of Bills Zahn moved to approve payment of the meeting expenses. Weiser seconded the motion, and it passed. Nye reported on the financials that were included in the meeting packet. An updated financial sheet will be sent to everyone following the meeting.

Advertising Financial Account Nye reviewed the advertising revenue for 2013-2014; newsletter ad sales have brought in $8,425 to date. There is an additional $625 in ad revenue that hasn’t been received yet.

Business Items Strategic Plan Follow-up The mission and vision statements need to be rewritten before the directors can move forward with suggestions made from the strategic planning session. Jones, Carlson, Richter, and Zahn will form a committee to come up with recommendations before the next meeting. The group will try and meet via Google hangout or Adobe Connect. They would also like to meet the night before the next meeting.

The strategic plan also suggested making an inventory of all the director’s resources. The directors should send a list of their resources to Nye before the next meeting

NASA Climate Education Module Dr. Laura Munski was unable to join the meeting to present on the NASA Climate Education Module. She will be invited to the next meeting.

Advisory Committee The Indian Education Representative and ND Senator seats have not been filled on the Advisory Committee. Townsend was not present at the meeting, but has communicated with Lucy Fredrickson in the past to fill the Indian Education position. Zahn will contact Sen. Robinson to see if he is interested in serving on the committee again.

1 Website Domain Carlson has secured a new domain name for NDTCN. The new domain will be www.ndtcn.tcn.k12.nd.us. EduTech has Edu Sites, and NDTCN may switch to that for the new website. Carlson has staff that is willing and capable of making the website changes.

Center Reports Becker reported they are planning summer science courses with NASA money. She has been working with a NASA rep that works on the UND campus.

Richter informed the group that Williston just finished an in-service a couple weeks ago. It went very well. Harry Wong is scheduled to be the keynote next year. Summer workshops are currently being planned.

Pullen reported that the winter conference went well. Daily 5 classes have continued to be in high demand. She is also planning Hooked on Fishing with the ND Game and Fish in May.

Schwarz shared that United Tribes education department visited the Bismarck center and seemed very interested.

Zahn reported that Valley City has purchased a digital planetarium. Training was held in June to learn how to use the planetarium, and the board also decided to purchase the iPod council to go with it. She is also busy planning summer workshops with ND Game and Fish.

Carlson reported that Devils Lake purchased Valley City’s old planetarium. So far, they have used it in one school. Devils Lake recently had its in-service with Gerald Vetter as a keynote. He did a great job and was very reasonably priced.

Jelleberg informed the group that Bottineau has begun the process of forming an Advisory Board for the new teacher center. They will be having a meeting in March to finalize the board. Jelleberg has received the materials from the Wahpeton center and has them in storage now. She also reported she has used the NASA Dome for students and rented it from Dr. Patricia in Houston. If any directors would like to rent it, she would be happy to give them the contact information.

Adjournment Carlson adjourned the meeting at 10:55 a.m.
