Womenade of Elkhorn Minutes for the May 4, 2016 Board Meeting

Call to Order

President Robin Heller called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Those in attendance and constituting a quorum were Robin Heller, Amy Parks, Theresa Johnson, Nikki Kirshenbaum, Kerry Blusys, Linda Lembree and Abby Devin.

Theresa Johnson made a motion to approve the June 2015 minutes. The motion was seconded by Amy Parks. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Robin Heller nominated Kerry Blusys for an Executive Board position. A vote was taken and Kerry was appointed as a new board member.

Financials/Treasurer’s Report

Theresa Johnson made a motion to accept the proposed 2016 Budget and the motion was seconded by Nikki Kirshenbaum. The budget was approved.

A financial audit will be completed by Fall 2016 on the Womenade financials by Theresa Johnson and Kerry Blusys.

Backpack Drive

Nikki Kirshenbaum will chair the Backpack project. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 has been scheduled as the date for the project. Sorting will take place during the day at Westridge Elementary School from 10-12 p.m. and families will pick up backpacks from 4-6 p.m.

It was decided that due to the high number of gift certificates needed for high school students this year, we will be asking for donations (to contribute for this need) on our website. Additionally, we will be providing gift cards/coupons for haircuts and shoes if we can find a local retailer to assist with this expense. Theresa and Robin are in the process of investigating this possibility. The gift cards would be distributed to students when they picked up their backpacks and school supplies. A signup genius maybe used on the website to facilitate this need.

Fall Clothing Drive After discussion was had it was decided that we will proceed with the clothing drive and Theresa Johnson will be in charge of this event. Tentative dates of October 13 and 14 were chosen for drop-off and sorting on the 13th with distribution on the 14th. The drive will be held at either Westridge Elementary School or Valley View Jr High School. More details will follow as they become available.

Celebration of Giving Fall Party

Joanne Kamppinen will chair the Fall Mixer, which has been tentatively scheduled for November 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Pearson and Co. Invitations will be sent via email. Food/Drink--appetizers, desserts, wine, beer, and water will be served. A sign up genius will be circulated for sign up.

Celebration of Giving

Amy Parks and Abby Devin will co-chair the Celebration of Giving project and Ricci Nisley will be in in charge of the volunteer coordinators. Kerry Blusys will be in charge of data entry. The tentative timeline for the events of this project this year will be as follows: Letters/emails to schools counselors – Wed, Oct 26 Womenade forms returned to Kerry by -- Fri, Nov 11 Mitten Writing -- Fri, Nov 18. 8:15 a.m. at Scooters Mittens go up at the schools -- Mon, Nov 21 Gifts due back at the schools the week of Dec 5th Gift Sorting at Spring Ridge -- Fri, Dec 9, 3:30 p.m. to whenever Gift Distribution to families at Spring Ridge -- Sun, Dec 11, 4-6 p.m.

New Business

Robin Heller submitted her resignation to the board. The board accepted her resignation and thanked her for her tremendous years of service to the board and to the children, families and the community of Elkhorn.

Theresa Johnson nominated Amy Parks for President of the board. A vote was taken and Amy was appointed President.

Amy Parks nominated Linda Lembree for Treasurer of the board. A vote was taken and Linda was appointed Treasurer.

Abby Devin nominated Nikki Kirshenbaum for Secretary of the board. A vote was taken and Nikki was appointed Secretary. Board meeting was adjourned at 9:08 p.m.
