1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 10 11 TO HONOR MARY ANN GOLDMAN STROUP OF 12 GREENWOOD FOR TWENTYFOUR YEARS OF 13 OUTSTANDING SERVICE AS A CRIME VICTIM/WITNESS 14 ADVOCATE, CHILD AND VULNERABLE ADULT 15 ADVOCATE, COMMUNITY SERVANT, AND 16 PROFESSIONAL EDUCATOR AND TO THANK HER FOR 17 HER UNTIRING EFFORTS TO ENHANCE THE PROFESSION 18 OF SERVICES FOR SOUTH CAROLINA’S VOICELESS 19 VICTIMS. 20 21 Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of 22 Representatives honors individuals who give of their time and 23 resources for the good of others; and 24 25 Whereas, among such caring individuals, Mary Ann Stroup stands 26 high in the respect and admiration of her fellow citizens for her 27 service to the people of Greenwood County and beyond, especially 28 children, vulnerable adults, and elderly crime victims; and 29 30 Whereas, born the daughter of Helen Williams Goldman and 31 Ashley Dean Goldman, this lifelong resident of Greenwood 32 County graduated from NinetySix High School. In time, she met 33 and married her beloved husband, Richard A. “Dick” Stroup, and 34 she is the proud mother of four and grandmother of seven; and 35 36 Whereas, a woman who combines her gift for empathy with 37 strength and knowledge, Mary Ann began her career in victim 38 services as an administrative assistant to Sheriff Sam Riley of 39 Greenwood County in 1992; and 40 41 Whereas, to increase her ability to serve crime victims, she became 42 the director of victim services at the Greenwood County Sheriff’s

[5433] 1 1 Office and served there with distinction for eighteen years. During 2 this time, she received many awards for service and developed 3 outstanding procedures for serving crime victims at all levels 4 “twentyfour/seven.” At the same time, she mentored and 5 supervised five staff members; and 6 7 Whereas, Mary Ann was instrumental in developing the Law 8 Enforcement Victim Advocate Organization, a group of 9 lawenforcementbased victim advocates for South Carolina. 10 Presently, she serves on the governing board of the South Carolina 11 Victim Assistance Network, as well as the oversight board of DSS 12 for Greenwood, and she has been instrumental in developing 13 protocols for service throughout the State. She also has mentored 14 countless fledgling victim advocates; and 15 16 Whereas, she became the victim/witness advocate at the Eighth 17 Circuit Solicitor’s Office in January 2013, where she has 18 distinguished herself in service to her fellow man, with a focus on 19 those less able to help themselves; and 20 21 Whereas, the House of Representatives, grateful for the consistent 22 commitment and excellence Mary Ann Stroup has bestowed on the 23 people of South Carolina, takes great pleasure in wishing her well 24 as she continues to serve. Now, therefore, 25 26 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 27 28 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 29 by this resolution, honor Mary Ann Goldman Stroup of 30 Greenwood for twentyfour years of outstanding service as a crime 31 victim/witness advocate, child and vulnerable adult advocate, 32 community servant, and professional educator and thank her for 33 her untiring efforts to enhance the profession of services for South 34 Carolina’s voiceless victims. 35 36 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 37 Mary Ann Goldman Stroup. 38 XX 39
