About the role The Claims Expert role manages the resolution of assigned claims involving asbestos, environmental contamination, and other latent exposures. The successful candidate will show an aptitude to develop and execute strategies to effectively and efficiently manage often complex, multi-party claims and cases. The ideal candidate will have experience successfully litigating - or managing the litigation of - latent claims. In addition the Claims Expert may settle claims up to designated settlement authority under general supervision. The preferred Swiss Re office locations for this role are Armonk, Chicago, Overland Park, Schaumburg and Westlake Village.

About the team • Manage the disposition of claim and loss exposures on assigned accounts. • Assure the establishment of appropriate case reserves to cover the exposures on reported claims. • Provide support to affected internal stakeholders in handling claims. • Ensure that we provide appropriate and respectful responses to our policyholders while protecting our company's legitimate interests. • Assist in formulating, developing and implementing account management and disposition strategy. • Comply with company reporting requirements and all legal and regulatory requirements. • Interface with senior management and other units. • Provide insightful input and statistical information regarding claim and loss development.

About You • 7 to 10 years claims or legal experience, including significant experience in handling or litigating latent direct insurance claims • 3 to 5 years experience or demonstrated understanding of asbestos, environmental, latent claims • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with capability of communicating with highest level claim and legal officers in client companies and senior management internally • Knowledge of or exposure to other disciplines e.g.., contract wording, accounting, and underwriting -- a plus • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, implement plans and, conduct meaningful analysis • Bachelor's Degree, J.D. highly preferred • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills • Excellent analytical and organizational skills • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities
