ATTENDANCE / TARDY POLICY  Come to class every day.  Students must be in the classroom when the bell for class to begin rings.  The Bear Creek HS Attendance Policy will be enforced  It is the responsibility of the student and parent or guardian to initiate requests for makeup work.

BEHAVIOR POLICY  No ipods, cell phones, electronic devices of any kind are allowed in class. If I see or hear cell phones, ipods, etc, they will be immediately confiscated without warning  No food or drink is allowed in class.  All students must treat each other and the classroom with respect.  All students must act appropriately at all times.  Other behavior polices will be implemented as needed. The TI 84 plus is the recommended calculator.

GRADING POLICY Grades will be calculated as follows:  Assignments / Projects 20%  Quizzes 10%  Tests 50%  Final Exam 20%  The BCHS Grading Scale is: 90-100 A; 80-89 B: 70-79 C; 60-69 D

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS Students are responsible for  Getting the assignment accurately.  Following directions in the homework examples.  Working honestly and accurately.  Doing every assignment completely.  Making an effort to get assistance as it is needed.  Doing assignments even on days when they are absent.  Periodically reviewing previously done homework assignments.  Late assignments will be accepted until the day of the chapter test.  Credit for late assignments will be up to 70% of the original point value TESTS Tests results can be maximized if students  Review far enough in advance so they can do an unhurried, thorough job on the test to reflect their true ability.  Read appropriate sections and model exercises in the textbook.  Believe in their ability and remember that the final grade will be determined on the basis of an entire term’s work and not only one test.  Follow directions and read instructions carefully.  Show all work clearly.  Make an all-out effort to prepare well for every exam.  All tests must be taken to receive credit for the course  Retesting process will be as follows: o In order to retest or point challenge, you MUST: . Complete all homework for the chapter . Correct all problems missed on a separate paper o Then you may choose ONE of the following options . Retake an entire test (similar to the original test) I will give you the higher test grade . Point Challenge the problems you miss – I will give you a problem on the whiteboard similar to the problem you missed, if you show me you can solve the problem correctly, you earn back half the points you missed on that problem (The max you can earn on a point challenge is 89%) o You may only choose ONE of the above options per chapter test (you can choose a different option the next test if you want)  CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ( school policy will be followed)

EXTRA HELP Times for extra help on class work are:  After school (2:30 to 3:00)  Before school (one or two quick questions only)  At lunch ( by appointment only)  Access periods  Tutor Rooms Students who have a D or an F are required to attend ACCESS or TUTOR ROOM at least once a week until a C or better is attained. Failure to attend ACCESS/ TUTOR ROOM may result in Afternoon Detention.

EXTRA CREDIT Class extra credit will be given periodically. Extra credit is not given out individually.

COLLEGE CREDIT There will be two options to earn college credit for this course.  AP Exam o Administered in May (we will spend April studying for the exam) o Must earn a 3 (on a 5 point scale) to receive credit (for most colleges)  CU Succeed o College credits through CU Denver o The grade you earn in the course will be the grade on your college transcript You will decided second semester which option you would like, but it is good to start thinking about and discussing the options this semester

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES  Check that students do their homework completely and conscientiously whenever it is assigned.  To maintain communication with their children regarding attendance.  Contact the teacher occasionally to check on the student’s progress.  Provide for additional assistance when needed.

Hopefully, the course will give you an awareness of the role that mathematics plays in today’s society in everything from population crises to financial planning, from environmental issues to the spread of diseases. If successful, this course should prepare you for future courses, for careers, and for life itself!
