Purpose of job To raise money for Epilepsy Action against specified targets by developing and managing a rolling Trust Programme, approaching high value trusts, statutory opportunities including Big Lottery, and applications to corporate organisations, in conjunction with the Fundraising Manager.

Scope of activities This post will work directly with the Fundraising Manager to develop this area of fundraising. The post holder will have close relationships with other members of the fundraising department and wider organisation as appropriate. The fundraising department covers all the main fundraising disciplines including: Events, Major Donors, Direct Marketing and Appeals, and Trading as well as Trusts and Corporate Organisations. The post holder will be required to generate funds through:  Cultivating relationships with charitable trusts and foundations, communicating Epilepsy Action’s work and outcomes for beneficiaries.  Working with the Fundraising Manager to develop of an effective forward strategy for trusts and foundations in order to increase year on year income  Working with the Fundraising Manager to develop charity of the year applications and other proposals to generate corporate and workplace income

Assistance in other fundraising areas may, from time to time, be required. Principal duties and responsibilities

These include the following:

1. To maximise income from the following activities in order to meet individual and team income targets in support of the delivery of Epilepsy Action’s work. a. Charitable Trusts and Foundations i. Maintain and develop relationships and income from existing trust supporters. ii. Through research (directories, the internet, competitor activity) identify and develop potential new and high value trust supporters. iii. Work with Epilepsy Action’s service teams to identify suitable new and existing projects to attract trust funding. iv. Develop a strong case for support to maximise income generating opportunities to existing and potential new trust supporters. b. Statutory Funders i. Undertake research to identify new sources of statutory income for Epilepsy Action including: 1. Big Lottery 2. Central and Regional Government sources 3. European Sources ii. Work with Epilepsy Action’s service teams to identify suitable new and existing projects to attract statutory funding. iii. Develop fundraising applications following the relevant criteria of each funding source and in conjunction with Epilepsy Action’s service teams as appropriate. c. Corporate Giving and Workplace Giving i. Maintain and develop relationships and income from existing corporate supporters. ii. Undertake research to identify and develop potential new corporate and workplace supporters. iii. Work closely with the Fundraising Manager to develop proposals and charity of the year applications. iv. To work closely with the wider fundraising team to develop a portfolio of work place giving opportunities.

2. Reporting on income and expenditure against targets and other key performance indicators on a regular basis:

Last amended March 2010 Page 2 of 6 a. Producing monthly reports on activity, financial targets and future plans. b. Ensuring all materials produced are in line with corporate identity and quality assurance requirements. c. Attending regular one to one sessions with Fundraising Manager. d. Attending and contributing to fundraising team meetings. e. Contributing to future fundraising strategy and plans.

3. Ensuring close collaboration with relevant staff and other stakeholders as appropriate, including: a. Working closely with service delivery and regional service staff/teams to ensure high quality information is available for various case for support and grant applications b. Close working with wider fundraising team to ensure opportunities are maximised c. Close working with communications department to ensure Epilepsy Action corporate guidelines are adhered to where appropriate.

4. Maintaining efficient administrative systems, including: a. Taking responsibility for inputting and managing relevant trust and corporate donor records on Progress CRM b. Responsibility for the appropriate, efficient and timely thanking of all grants and donations c. Dealing with enquiries from trusts, corporate and statutory organisations – as appropriate d. Developing and administering effective systems and undertaking own administration

5. Other a. Attending fundraising events and supporting participants on the day as required. b. Act as an ambassador for Epilepsy Action by representing the association at external events as necessary. c. Consistently upholding the standards of the organisation by both word and example. d. Ensure all work meets the Association’s quality standards. e. Ensure all aspects of work comply with health and safety, equal opportunities and other legislation and established Epilepsy Action procedures. f. Ensure all work is accessible and that the charity’s commitment to diversity and equal opportunities is planned into all work in a relevant and effective manner. g. Any other duties reasonably required which may from time to time fall within the scope and responsibility of the post.

Expected to have or gain a basic understanding of epilepsy. b. If approached by anyone requiring advice or information about the condition the post holder should not provide advice or information but they should signpost that person to the association’s Advice and Information Services.

7. Organisational understanding a. Expected to have or gain in depth understanding of the Association’s services and strategic aims.

Experience and Qualifications

Essential 1) Experience of establishing and managing effective relationships with charitable trusts and foundations, and/or statutory and/or corporate organisations 2) Experience of using specialist research tools 3) Proven experience of writing project proposals and case for support 4) Proven experience of securing donations, grant income or new business 5) Educated to at least A level or equivalent

Preferred 6) Experience of using computer databases to manage donor/customer relationships 7) Experience of working in a professional fundraising environment or not for profit marketing department, either paid or voluntarily.

Skills and Abilities

Essential

1) Demonstrable excellent interpersonal and skills. 2) Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal. 3) Ability to use own initiate and to work to tight deadlines. 4) Good Word, Excel and database skills. 5) Ability to effectively organise workload and plans to achieve objectives and targets.

Preferred 6) Knowledge and understanding of charitable trusts, statutory and/or corporate fundraising and relevant fundraising trends and legislation. 7) Ability to use a fundraising or CRM database to support fundraising activity and adhere to the principles of data protection.

Additional Criteria

Essential 1) A demonstrable understanding of and a commitment to Equal Opportunities including the needs of different social, cultural and disability groups. 2) Able to travel to meet the needs of the role, including occasional evenings and weekends as required. The job will entail occasional travelling all over the UK, possibly overseas and working some unsociable hours.
