Printed 2/1/06--S. 9 Read the first time January 25, 2006. 10 11 12 THE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION 13 To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4376) to 14 request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that 15 crosses the Saluda River along South Carolina Highway 20 in 16 Anderson and Greenville Counties, etc., respectfully 17 REPORT: 18 That they have duly and carefully considered the same and 19 recommend that the same do pass: 20 21 W. 1 [4376-1] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF 12 TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE THAT CROSSES 13 THE SALUDA RIVER ALONG SOUTH CAROLINA 14 HIGHWAY 20 IN ANDERSON AND GREENVILLE 15 COUNTIES THE “HAROLD L. DRENNON, JR. MEMORIAL 16 BRIDGE”, AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR 17 SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS 18 “HAROLD L. DRENNON, JR. MEMORIAL BRIDGE”. 19 20 Whereas, the Honorable Harold L. Drennon, Jr. was born on 21 September 12, 1931 and died on December 28, 1995; and 22 23 Whereas, he and his wife Sara were married for forty-four years, 24 and together raised three children; and 25 26 Whereas, Mr. Drennon was a member of Tabernacle Baptist 27 Church in the Town of Pelzer where he served as a Deacon and 28 Sunday School Teacher; and 29 30 Whereas, he served his country with honor as a Second Lieutenant 31 during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Captain 32 with the United States Army upon completion of his military 33 career; and 34 35 Whereas, he was a member of the Pelzer Town Council; and 36 37 Whereas, his desire to improve the lives of his community’s young 38 people led him to serve as a teacher at Wren High School for 39 thirty-two years, and serve as a principal at Concrete, Wren, and 40 White Plains schools for ten years; and 41

1 [4376] 1 1 Whereas, he was Wren High School’s first football and basketball 2 coach and was the announcer for their athletic events for about 3 twenty-five years; and 4 5 Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General 6 Assembly to name the bridge that crosses the Saluda River along 7 South Carolina Highway 20 in Anderson and Greenville Counties 8 in honor of this distinguished South Carolinian. Now, therefore, 9 10 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 11 concurring: 12 13 That the members of the General Assembly request that the 14 Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses the 15 Saluda River along South Carolina Highway 20 in Anderson and 16 Greenville Counties the “Harold L. Drennon, Jr. Memorial 17 Bridge”, and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that 18 contain the words “Harold L. Drennon, Jr. Memorial Bridge”. 19 20 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 21 the Department of Transportation. 22 ----XX---- 23
