Dear Parents and Guardians:
Students in 4th- 8th grade will once again have the opportunity to participate in the ski program at Red Lodge Mountain or at the Red Lodge Nordic Center. There will be a total of four sessions: Monday, February 6; Monday, February 13; Monday, February 27; & Monday March 6.
Students who choose not to ski, snowboard, or Nordic ski will be required to attend school for planned and structured activities. The school requires 85% student participation in grades 4-8 in order to offer the program. The administration and school board will consider canceling the program if participation drops below this level.
RL Mountain Prices for four days of skiing: $108.00 total for full package (lesson, pass & rentals if needed – ATTENTION this price is the same whether you have your own equipment or not); $56.00 total for lesson only (participant has pass & equipment.) Nordic prices for four days of skiing are $40.00 total for full package; $20.00 total for lesson only.
The Roosevelt (4th-8th) grade ski program runs differently than the program for Mountain View students. Apart from their ski lesson, students are not required to ski in small chaperoned groups. Parents are welcome to ski with their children, however, they must pay for their own lift tickets/rentals, but a discounted group rate is available.
This is a school activity. In order to maintain a learning environment, every student will be required to take lessons. All participants will take a one-hour lesson each session.
Sack lunches will be provided by the school’s cafeteria, with your child’s lunch account being charged. You may also send your child with a sack lunch from home or your child can purchase a lunch at the Main Lodge.
It is important that EVERYONE who is participating in the Red Lodge School Ski Program fill out the attached School Group Program Equipment Rental Form (Red Lodge Mountain participants only.) These signatures are needed in case your child should experience difficulty with his or her own equipment on the mountain. In addition, if your child is renting equipment please indicate their skier type (I, II, or III) as directed on the form. See information titled, “Skiers: Classifying Yourself for Boot Binding.”
It is imperative that students who participate in this program dress appropriately. Weather conditions at Red Lodge Mountain may not be the same as your home or school. Students should be prepared for a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. The school retains the right to refuse a student’s access to the mountain if not properly equipped for the weather. Also, please make sure that personal items are labeled. turn page over
All students are required to ride the bus to the mountain or Nordic Center. If your child is not riding the bus home, a note must be sent to school with your student the morning of the busses leaving for the ski program. If your child misses the bus for any reason (except injury or any other out-of- control circumstance) he or she will serve a day of in-school suspension (ISS) on the following day. *A note will NOT be accepted for your child to ride home with anyone other than his or her parent or legal guardian. *
Please fill out the attached forms and return the appropriate forms listed below to the school along with payment by Friday, January 13 and make checks payable to Red Lodge Schools. If you have more than one child in the 4-8 program, you can write one check for the entire family. (ATTENTION, no checks will be deposited until the day the ski program starts on February 8.) Refunds will be made at the end of the ski program for medical emergencies only. Refunds will NOT be made for any other type of absences.
If you need to request a ski scholarship, please fill out the attached financial aid form. Please let us know which ski or Nordic package your child will need. It would be a tremendous help to know if you can pay any portion of your child’s ski costs, or if you would be able to make payments in installments. If you cannot pay any of the costs, please let us know. We will do our best to accommodate these requests, however, scholarships will not be guaranteed. Children who receive a scholarship will be required to personally write a thank- you note and it may be written anonymously. Time will be given at school to write these. All information is confidential.
