For this summative assignment, you will be researching the process of becoming a teacher in Texas. Please complete the following activities in order. Once completed, you will make a Power Point Presentation to present to the class containing the information researched from your selected college/university and educational degree plan.

1. Routes to Certification for Texas Classroom Teachers - Follow the directions on the worksheet provided to visit the Texas Education Agency Website at www.tea.state.tx.us - Click on the How Do I …Become a Teacher? Link to investigate options for obtaining certification as a classroom teacher in Texas. At the bottom of the page are the two links for the different types of certification programs. - Complete the Steps to Becoming Certified Questions using the information found on the two links.

2. Approved Education Programs - Next, you will be researching the Educator Certification Online System Website for approved college and university programs that offer degrees in education. - https://secure.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/approvedprograms.asp - Select one of the region numbers from the Texas map. Next, select one college/university of interest from your desired region to complete this project. Each student must select a different college/university.

3. Education University of Choice Research - With the college/university selected from the section above, you will be researching the different education degree plans as well as how to obtain a Teacher Certificate. - First, visit the college/university’s website, focusing on the College of Education section. - Next, you will answers the following questions: o What is the name of the college/university you selected? o What are the admission requirements to the college or university? (GPA, SAT or ACT scores, Class Rank, etc.) o What types of education degrees plans are offered there? Provide examples of Early Childhood and Secondary degree plan options. o Does the college or university offer any type of Masters or Doctoral Degrees in Education?

4. Education Degree Plan Course Selection Guide - Select one of the educational degree plans offered at your college/university to answer the following questions. The degree plan may be from either the Early Childhood or Secondary level. o Which degree plan did you select? o How many credit hours does the degree plan consist of? o What kind of courses does the degree plan require? o What types of certification tests are necessary for this degree plan in order to obtain your Teacher Certificate?

5. Finally, you will create a Prezi Presentation over the information researched to present to the class. Your Prezi should contain the specific college/university’s information you found for Sections #2-4. When finished, you will email to me ([email protected]) for a summative grade.
