PURPOSE OF ROLE

The UK Monitoring and Evaluation Manager will contribute to the delivery and development of an effective learning strategy through providing a comprehensive programme of support to the UK grants team and grantees. They will work closely with others to ensure that our learning is effectively captured and shared internally and externally. The post holder will also contribute to the development and implementation of the new UK grant making strategy and policy.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

 contribute to the continued the development of the monitoring, evaluation and learning strategy within the UK grants team and review its progress against stated aims,  review and revise the monitoring, evaluation and learning tools, processes and systems, Development and  working with Programme Managers determine appropriate learning implementation of the interventions with agencies funded to run strategic grants or special monitoring, evaluation initiatives, and learning strategy  develop and implement a strategy to review performance of different grant making models,  develop and implement plans for training and supporting grants staff and grantees in the use of these tools, processes and systems.

 assist in the development, management and review of an annual monitoring, evaluation and learning work plan,  support and advise other team members in monitoring outcomes and learning objectives for the grants initiatives they manage as well as supporting relevant grantees, Quality control,  support other team members with evaluations of strategic grants or monitoring and special initiatives, evaluation activities  to have an awareness of ‘Value for Money’ issues and their relevance to the voluntary sector, our grantees, funders and Comic Relief in particular  participate in the ongoing development of an effective information management and retrieval system,  play a lead role on appointment of all external evaluators.

 identify good monitoring, evaluation and learning practice and investigate ways in which this might be used within Comic Relief or promoted or replicated among grantees as well as with our own International Grants Learning team,  manage high quality Comic Relief-generated evaluation and learning Ensuring learning is reports and the ongoing analysis and reporting of appropriate data, appropriately shared  liaise with other funders and the sector on sharing learning in monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches and participate in relevant networks  to have an awareness of the newly emerging ‘transparency’ agenda and the need for Comic Relief to be open and accountable with key stakeholders

 undertake occasional grant assessment work, Grant making and  participate in the UK grants team or committee meetings where management appropriate,  undertake visits to funded organisations  work closely with the Grants Communications Team and other Comic Relief staff with communications responsibilities to identify projects, Ensuring programmes or initiatives associated with success and/or valuable accountability and learning outcomes in order to develop their potential communications and public understanding fundraising purposes, of Comic Relief’s UK grant making  ensure the evaluation of work funded by Comic Relief takes account of the needs of Comic Relief’s fundraising and communications stakeholders and is fully utilised to demonstrate impact.  undertake any appropriate work as delegated by the Learning and Development Manager or Head of UK Grants,  use any opportunity that presents itself to support the organisation’s drive for sponsorship both for cash donations and gifts in kind, Other duties  participate and contribute as part of the UK team, taking an active role in team development and within the Grants Department generally,  share in Comic Relief’s values and participate as a full member of the Comic Relief team, and where appropriate, to support initiatives and activities across the whole organisation.
