Kirk Smith Student Scholarship 2013 Given in honor of Kirk Smith, son of Kathy and Doc Smith

Application and Eligibility Requirements:  Undergraduate ERI Research Assistant and/or Forestry Major enrolled in the Forestry Professional Program with a declaration of emphasis in Fire Ecology and Management or Forest Health and Restoration.  at least one year of classwork remaining  cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher  provide resume and unofficial copy of transcripts with application  submit documents electronically to Walker Chancellor, [email protected]  Application deadline – 5 pm. on Feb. 8, 2013

No late applications will be accepted. The Scholarship Committee will review applications and award scholarships in the amount of $750 or greater. If selected, you will be invited along with your parents to attend the School of Forestry Honors Convocation on April 26, 2013 where you will be recognized. 1. Please address your commitment to forest stewardship, ecosystem management and/or ecological restoration and how it relates to your career goals.

2. Please describe how your education, work experience, and training has contributed to your personal goals in land/ecosystem management and/or ecological restoration. 3. This scholarship is awarded in memory of Kirk Smith, who served as the Superintendent of the Mormon Lake Hotshots and had a lifelong career in forest and fire management. He was known as a person of enthusiasm and great integrity who had a quiet determination to “do the right thing’” even when it was difficult or painful. How have you had to “do the Right thing” when it was a difficult decision? Give an example demonstrating your integrity in handling an ethical dilemma.
