SOLVING TRIANGLES

1. A chord of a circle is 18cm long and subtends an angle of 460 at the circumference. Find the length of a chord of this circle which subtends an angle at the circumference of 230. [ANS: 9.78cm]

2. In a triangle ABC, AC = 30cm and BC = 40cm. Find the greatest measure of the angle B. If B = 350, solve the triangle. [ANS: 48.6 degrees, A= 49.90, C=95.10, c=52.1cm OR A=130.10, C=14.90, c=13.4cm]

3. Points P & Q lie in the same horizontal plane, P being 2500m north of Q. The bearings of a mountain from these two points are 2500 and 2950 respectively. The angle of elevation of the summit from P is 20.40. Find the height of the mountain. [ANS: 1190m]

4. Points A and B are 5000m apart. Hill, H, is on a bearing of 027.50 from A and 2920 from B. If the angles of elevation of the top of the hill from A and B are 3.70 and 4.40, respectively, find the height of the hill. [ANS: 237m]
