As the Red Foxes accepted their trophy, 24 supporters began making plans to watch their team do the same 25 next year; and 26 27 Whereas, over a successful 224 season, the Hartsville team grew 28 more aware of how to put their talents to use and how to forge 29 winning strategies with a marked determination; and 30 31 Whereas, the Red Foxes put their agility, speed, and perseverance 32 to the test as they scored and rebounded in the title contest, leading 33 at halftime by six points; and 34 35 Whereas, the defining moment of the game occurred when some 36 starting team members found themselves in foul trouble and had to 37 be taken out of the game for a time. In response, the strong 38 Hartsville bench, rising to the occasion, took the starters’ places, 39 expanded the team’s lead, and never let it go; and 40

[5153] 2 1 Whereas, adding further glitter to an already scintillating season, 2 junior Jaylen Shaw was named to the AllState team and selected as 3 Pee Dee Area Player of the Year; and 4 5 Whereas, drawing on his own athletic ability and leadership skills, 6 Head Coach Aric Samuel, ably assisted by Coach Calvin Shaw, led 7 the Red Foxes to their firstever statechampionship victory. Coach 8 Samuel, himself a former Hartsville basketball standout, was 9 honored as the 20112012 High School Sports Report Class AAA 10 Basketball Coach of the Year, an award that made this title coup an 11 especially sweet one for both coach and team; and 12 13 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great 14 pleasure in recognizing the young athletes of the Hartsville High 15 School basketball team for their fine example both on and off the 16 court and anticipate hearing of their continued successes in the 17 years to come. Now, therefore, 18 19 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 20 21 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 22 by this resolution, recognize and honor the Hartsville High School 23 basketball team for a successful season and commend its 24 outstanding players and coaches for capturing the 2012 Class AAA 25 State Championship title. 26 27 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 28 Principal Charles E. Burry, Jr., and Head Coach Aric Samuel of 29 Hartsville High School. 30 XX 31
