Online Homework Information

A large portion of your homework assignments in AP Physics will be online homework from the University of Texas online homework service. To complete these assignments you will need to log-on to the UT website and download the assignment, work the problems and then submit your answers. The homework service will then grade your answer and tell you whether or not your answer is correct. You can then correct any problems you miss with a 7% penalty for each attempt per question after the first attempt. (Multiple choice questions deduct points based on the number of choices. Basically the more choices for a question the less you lose for missing the question.)

These assignments will be worth 30 points each, based on correctness. However, for this first assignment only, the assignment will be worth 20 points – although you can still score 30 points on it. This means you can start AP Physics with a 10 homework bonus points!!! Only answers submitted online will be scored.

This summer assignment is due Friday August 17 at 1:00 am CST. This is a hard deadline, which means there will be no way to submit your assignment after that time. It is not necessary for you to be online as you work on the questions. You will only need a computer to download or print your assignment and to submit your answers. I will schedule computer time prior to the due date to help you with your submissions. The library computer lab is also open each morning before school if you need access to a computer once school starts.

Setting up your account (If you already have an account, you can skip this step.):

1) Go to https://quest.cns.utexas.edu/ 2) Click on “Log in to Quest”. 3) Click on “I need a UT EID” 4) Click on “Get a UT EID” 5) Read the yellow box and click “continue”. 6) Answer the questions truthfully and then click “continue”. 7) Fill in the form (* means the field is required) and click “continue”. YOU WILL NEED TO ENTER AN E-MAIL ADDRESS!!!! I will use the homework system to email the class important information throughout the year and you will need an e-mail address to retrieve your password if you forget it. 8) If you are directed to a page that states “UT EID May Already Exist”, look over the list of possible UT EID’s. If one of them is yours from a previous class, check it and “claim” it. If not, click on “I don’t see my UT EID”. DO NOT CLAIM AN UT EID UNLESS IT IS REALLY YOURS!!!!! 9) Select reset questions 1, 2 & 3. Be sure you know the answers to these questions as they will be used to get you into your account should you forget your password. When finished click “continue”. 10) Set your password (follow the directions) and your password hint. Click “continue”. Note: Your password is case sensitive. 11) Check to see that the information is correct and then click “continue”. 12) You will be given your UTEID in a few seconds. Be patient.
