In the name of God Amen. I George Sampson of the County of Northumberland, Parish of Wicomico, being of sound mind and disposing memory but continually in danger of death and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking and dis… all others by me made heretofore.
In the first place I give the plantation whereon I now reside containing one hundred and twenty two acres more or less to my daughter Judith W. Sampson to her and her heirs forever.
Item – I give to my son Thornton Sampson the land I purchased of Walter Nutt, containing two hundred acres more or less and one yoke of oxen, the oxen to be had at my death and to him and his heirs forever.
Item – I give to my daughter Elizabeth Sampson one Negro called Cepus to her and her heirs forever.
Item – I give to my daughter Lucy Sampson one Negro man called Isaac to her and her heirs forever.
Item – I leave in the hands of my son Thornton Sampson a Negro boy called Warner, for the use and benefit of my daughter Nancy Pope for and during the term of her natural life to be ordered unto her in whatever manner my said son Thornton may think most conducive to her interest and at her death I give the same unto the children lawfully begotten of her body to them and their heirs forever.
Item – It is my will and desire that non of the above mentioned bequests except the yoke of oxen bequeathed to my son Thornton be delivered unto my children during the life of my beloved wife except at her will and discretion but that my estate be kept together for her benefit and my children until her death – then it is my will that all the undefined part of my estate be equally divided between my daughters Judith, Elizabeth, and Lucy Sampson and Nancy Pope.
Lastly I nominate and appoint my son Thornton Sampson and my friend William Basye Executors of this my last will and testament in testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name, my seal this fourteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred twenty-one.
