-Janet, a Spanish teacher here at the University of Iowa speaks about the need for cultural advancement and Latino involvement. Brings up the point that Iowa is the only big ten school that does not have a Latino studies program. Asks for UISG’s support. Alejandro, president of ALMA, expresses the importance of this proposal to the Latino community on campus as well. -Sustainability Liaison Ding asks for clarification on Latin America studies vs. Latino studies.

G.) New Business ______ S.S.B. 12 – Endorsing 2014 UISG Nomination for Vice City Council Liaison Speaker Subramanian speaks of the nomination of Senator McCarthy and his phenomenal work within UISG. Vice City Council Liaison expresses his excitement and his endorsement of nominating Senator McCarthy into to the new position. Motioned by Senator Hidalgo Wohlleben, seconded by Senator Kessler to end discussion. S.S.B. 12 passes. S.S.R. 13 – Student Elections Commissioner Appointment Senator Fleps talks about how well Jerry Gao would fit this position. President Valde discusses the experience and knowledge Jerry Gao presents and believes this appointment would be beneficial to UISG. Jerry talks about himself and his reason for leaving this past semester due to a course conflict and the want for this new position. He discusses his knowledge of how elections work and how he would be a good fit for this position. Motioned by Senator Bell seconded by Senator Bushnell. S.S.R. 13 passes. S.S.B. 14 – SABAC Supplemental II Funding SABAC Chair Bartoski discusses the allocations funded, which ended up being $26,577. Motioned by Senator Feng seconded by Senator Peterson. S.S.B. 14 passes. S.S.B. 15 – Green Initiatives Fund By-Laws Ratification Senator Lee discusses that there have only been about 4 submissions and that they have also worked with SABAC. Motioned by Senator Rodriguez seconded by Senator Bartoski. S.S.B. 15 passes. S.S.R. 09 – Resolution in Support of a Latino Studies Minor Diversity Co-Chair Carr speaks about the importance of the University having a Latino Studies Minor and asks for the Senate’s support. Senator Rodriguez and Senator Hidalgo-Wohlleben express their support. Senator Matson asks why it is not a major and only a minor. Senator Rodriguez says he believes this is a more feasible option. Motioned by Senator Brittain seconded by Senator Baer. S.S.R. 09 passes. S.S.R. 10 – Resolution to Endorse the Revised Policy on Human Rights Senator Baer discusses the need for Human Rights and the motion to endorse this code. President Valde explains that the new policy outlines new appeals and procedures. Motioned by Senator Rodriguez seconded by Senator Borders. S.S.R. 10 passes. ______
H.) Reports Advisor Executive Reports -President Valde discusses the new Cambus PA system Senator Wampler and herself have been working on, they will be working with KRUI to update the campus with events going on around campus. Also, there has been work being done with the library for a system for students to update things on campus. Lastly, there was a board of regents meeting she attended and reminds senators of Hawkeye Caucus, a mandatory event. -VP Cummings discusses the association of big 10 conference they attended and the success it was. -Diversity liaison Cai talks about the kick off program for the get to know us pilot program, they are going to put a presentation on next Thursday from 3:30-4:30 for the international students and asks senators to spread information about the event. -Communications Specialist Dickson discusses the average views of 9,000 views a week of UISG’s Facebook. Wants senators to promote the stalking campaign, recyclemania, and student credit money management. -Executive assistant Brown talks about the access to websites for student organizations on campus that he has been working on, by-laws to come regarding this. -CFO Turner thanks everyone for passing Supplemental II. Also, joint finance meeting this upcoming week. -Sustainability liaison Ding talks about the green twist and that organizations can receive money for sustainable events. Recylemania is giving free mugs out this week. Lastly, keep a look out green energy challenge. -Vice City Council Liaison Bramel discusses making PAULAS and public intoxications a civil citation an issue that is being talked about. This would mean it would not be on one’s criminal record. On March 11th there will be a presentation by the city on the gateway project about the raising of Dubuque Street. He also welcomes Senator McCarthy to the new position. -Senator McCarthy introduces himself. -Governmental Relations Liaison Brown talks about phase 2 of the thank you note campaign that is about to begin and the continuation of letters to the editors, handwritten thank you notes, and the new system of tweeting “thank you” to senators and legislators around Iowa. Hawkeye Caucus day is April 2nd. -Speaker Subramanian discusses that Hawkeye Caucus day is mandatory and that Senators are required to have 10 office hours this semester. Committee Chairs I.)
