Business Partnership Workshop Purpose: To establish the value of school/business partnerships and clarify expectations of partners.

Specific Objectives: By the end of the workshop sessions, participants will be able to: * Give a definition of a partnership * List the benefits of school/business partnerships * List expectations of both the school and the business partners * Formulate program goals and objectives based on a needs/resource assessment process * Relate differences in operational procedures between education and business settings

Goal 1: Improve Student Achievement  Company volunteers tutor in all areas of the curriculum and at all levels including the learning disabled  Students receive instruction and access to computers provided by companies  Companies sponsor reading programs  Companies participate in assembly programs stressing good health, safety, and character building  Schools and companies initiate attendance incentive programs  Companies provide bus transportation for educational field trips  Educational materials and equipment are donated to schools  Companies provide speakers, displays, and handouts for career days  Companies provide scholarships  Companies donate math, science, and language materials and help schools set up laboratories  Companies provide training on computers for school staffs  Company films are made available for loan to schools  Companies provide incentives for academic achievement  Companies donate class sets of daily newspapers for instructional purposes

Goal 2: Improve the Environment in Which Teaching and Learning Occur  Company volunteers assist with mural projects and paint-outs to reduce graffiti on campus and in the community  Companies donate curtains, used furniture, and plants  Volunteers refurbish and paint schoolrooms and hallways  Companies donate lumber and labor for school beautification  Companies assist with school and neighborhood beautification projects  Companies volunteers, school staff, parents and students work together to landscape school grounds  Companies assist schools in neighborhood watch programs  Companies provide assembly speakers to promote safety on the campus and in the community

Goal 3: Strengthen the Support from Parents and the Community At Large and Its Leaders for Our Program  Schools and companies generate positive press  Company representatives participate in school advisory councils  Companies are invited to attend athletic events and other campus activities to encourage involvement in the total school  Company personnel speak to parent groups about careers, health, safety, and financial issues  Schools include companies on mailing lists to receive school newsletters, bulletins, etc.
