Arrangement for Substitutes - Board Policy GBRJ
The Colquitt County Board of Education is committed to the adoption of practices, which contribute to student achievement. The Colquitt County Board believes that one such practice is the daily presence of teacher who actively pursue their assigned duties in a professional manner. The Colquitt County Board recognizes the fact that events occur occasionally which provide legal and valid reasons for teachers to be absent from their duties and that employment of a substitute teacher to carry out teaching assignments is in the best interest of both the regular teacher and the students.
The Colquitt County Board of Education feels that the highest possible qualities of instructional leadership and classroom management must be maintained by the substitute so as to assure the least possible interruption of student achievement. This Board establishes, as a minimum requirement, that each substitute teacher hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
As mandated by law, the Colquitt County Board has established an order of qualifications for substitute teachers. In descending priority such qualifications shall be based upon:
• Possession of a current teaching certificate;
• Successful performance of full-time teaching;
• Completion of some college training;
• Successful performance of substitute teaching;
• Completion of staff development training and/or possession of a rank one or two Auxiliary license.
The local administration shall maintain a list of qualified substitutes, which are, ranked according to the above priority classifications. This classification of available substitute teachers qualified in grades P through 12 shall be followed in filling temporary vacancies. The Board of Education will approve substitute teachers.
The Board may refuse to employ a substitute teacher, who in the discretion of the Colquitt County Board, would be detrimental to the education of students.
