Dear Mr Summers and Mr Jones Application 06/0706/OUT and S/1310/06/O, Trumpington Meadows On 25 July, I sent you the main response from the Trumpington Residents’ Association to the submission of further information regarding the planning application for Trumpington Meadows. The Association met that evening and identified a number of additional concerns. This letter provides further comments about the public open space and community park. I apologise for the delay in sending these comments. In discussions about Trumpington Meadows prior to the submission of the planning application, such as the Stakeholder Forums in 2004, the Residents’ Association was in favour of the park being owned and managed by the City Council and District Council and designed with a stress on biodiversity. We see that the developers are now proposing that the area is managed by a separate company and have outline their proposed use of the land in the landscape strategy (Supplementary Design and Access Statement, p. 38-43). Irrespective of which ownership approach is adopted, we are very interested in the management plan for the park and are concerned that this should include robust and long-term commitments to the priority on biodiversity and a guarantee that access to the area will be free for all local residents. We hope that the ecological reports that underpin the proposals in the Design and Access Statement will be made available as part of the management plan. We welcome the intention to retain 60 ha as agricultural land, to be used for cereals and to grow biomass for local energy generation. Taken in combination with the grassland and meadows in the park, the overall area should encourage a wide range of birds and mammals, including species such as song thrushes and skylarks.

1 We are disappointed to see the absence of a field study centre, which is another change from the earlier plans. It was originally proposed that the Shepherd’s Cottage would be used for this purpose, but we now see that it is planned to demolish the current building. We urge that a field study centre is established and funded as part of the development.

Yours sincerely

Graham Bass Chairman of the Trumpington Residents Association
