FOOD TECHNICIAN

Job Description

Job Title Food Technician Grade KR2 Hours 24 hours per week x 38 weeks per year as per business needs Line Manager Teacher i/c Food Responsible for N/A Liaison with Headteacher, Teaching staff, support staff, students Job Purpose To work under the day to day supervision of the Teacher i/c of Food in providing an effective support service to the Technology Department.

Specific Duties: The food technician is responsible for ensuring the food room is a safe and clean environment to cook in with the students. They will be assisting the teachers as well as be responsible for the order and purchasing of the demonstration food.

Daily the technician will need to:  Prepare demo ingredients and equipment before the lesson  Support teacher during the lesson  Assist students during the lesson  Sweep and wash (if necessary) the prep room floor  Wipe sinks, draining boards and taps  Wipe work tops  Wipe cupboard fronts  Wipe oven hobs  Wash and hang up tea towels

Weekly the technician will need to:  Purchase demo ingredients for weeks demos at the beginning of the week before work  Clear out the fridges  Wash and hang up the aprons  Keep track of food technology orders and budget

Fortnightly the technician will need to:  Clean fridges with hot water and bicarbonate of soda  Wash chopping boards in the dishwasher

Termly (every 6 weeks) the technician will need to:  Wash inside the cupboards  Descale the kettles  Wash the walls and windows behind the work surfaces  Defrost and wipe out the freezers  Clean the prep room  Clean ovens

When required the technician will need to:  Restock paper towels and soap dispensers  Print and laminate posters, labels etc  Photocopy worksheets and teaching resources  Order food in bulk

General Duties:  To work flexibly, undertaking tasks as directed, commensurate with the grade of the post

 To participate in the Performance Management process and undertake any training commensurate with the post

 To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace

The duties above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the postholder may be required by the Headteacher to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade.
