Welcome to Grand Junction's “End of Summer Bash”
As most of you know my life has been turned upside down with my mothers failing health over the past five weeks.
I will be moving her into an Assisted Living Facility here in Grand Junction from a Skilled Care Unit in Carbondale, Colorado the day before the tournament. (Timing for this is the pits).
Thank God for the Stampe Family. Tony, Cathy and Amy have graciously picked up the reigns and will be putting the site together, setting everything up while I move my mother. Everyone please remember to give them your thanks during the weekend. If it hadn’t been for this incredible family, the tournament would have had to have been canceled.
With all that’s been going on, this year’s tournament won’t have all those special little details that we usually have. Although, we do plan to have fun and will still have our “Farewell Bar-B-Que” (free to all participants), Bratwursts and Burgers this year, so please remember to come and join us for a bite to eat after you’ve packed up and before you hit the road.
This year our tournament is quite small, only 13 teams have entered and we dropped the Friday Evening Multi-breed racing due to lack of interest. We hope to offer Multi-breed again next year.
Each day has 44 races scheduled, so we should have plenty of time to have a relaxed day of racing and still beat the sun setting. The schedule will be as follows:
Saturday: 7:00 AM…………..Please have your boxes ready to be checked 7:30 AM…………..Measuring of Height Dogs 8:00 AM…………..Judges Meeting 8:15 AM…………..Racing Starts
Sunday: 7:15 AM…………..Measuring of Height Dogs 7:45 AM…………..Judges Meeting 8:00 AM…………..Racing Starts End of Day………..Don’t forget the Bar-B-Que……..don’t go home hungry
During the Bar-B-Que, title ribbons will be handed out to those who achieved there; FD-Flyball Dog, FDX-Flyball Dog Excellent or FDCH-Flyball Dog Championship titles during the tournament, so don’t forget to list your new title on the “Brags Board”. Also Volunteer Door Prizes will be drawn at the Bar-B-Que. Each time you work in a Judging Position or at the Score Table please pick up a ticket to place in the Door Prize Can, so that you’ll have a chance at the Volunteer Prizes. No one has been assigned any set time or race to judge, therefore if everyone who is racing takes a judging seat for 4 races/per team raced (like me, I know that some of you are on more than one team), we should have no problem filling all the judging requirements and everyone will be eligible for a chance at one of the door prizes.
There is a food vendor scheduled to be on the Fair Grounds this year, the only issue is that she is scheduled to be at the other end of the Fair Grounds at the Equestrian Event. We can either drive down to her wagon or City Market is just across the highway and has a deli plus just down the highway is a Burger King and a Dairy Queen (real fast food Royalty).
Please bring your own shade, pools and a hose will be provided to keep the pups cool. There will be tables and chairs available for your crating area as in the past so if you’re vehicle is a bit cramped, or you’d like to fit in another ez-up, you can leave yours at home.
I’m so glad you are coming to join us in Sunny Western Colorado (that’s wishful thinking on the Monsoon front). Please be prepared for any type of weather, hot, cold, wet or dry. Recently we’ve been sunny and in the mid 90’s, but that is subject to change.
I’m looking forward to a good time with all my Flyball Buddies, I need to laugh a little, make that a lot,
Thanks for joining us for our 4th Annual Flyball Tournament,
MariAnne Fifield Tournament Director
