DIRECTIONS: This application must be filled out completely and accurately. Return this application with: 1. An essay (must be at least one page and should not exceed two pages in a Word document; handwritten essays will not be accepted) on one of the following current events in Human Resources. Page count should not include cover page or required bibliography.  Discuss healthcare reform in the US and the impact to employees and employers. What would you recommend as a corporate strategy for either a large corporation or a small business? Discuss some of the concerns, best practices, research, and proposals offered by each political party and recommendations to support your position (small business or large corporation).  Work – Life balance is on the minds of employees and employers. Briefly describe what this means to you. Create a proposed solution, a business case to present to management, an implementation strategy to your solution if the management wanted to pursue your solution. Consider Telecommuting, Flex time, work environment, job structure and work assignments.  Do companies need social media policies? Why or why not? Discuss some of the best practices and research to support your position.  Paid versus unpaid internships: Discuss the legal issues surrounding the topic, weigh the pros and cons of unpaid internships, and the effects they have on students and develop a defend a position on should colleges and universities post unpaid internships

A. Course Work - Courses related to Human Resources – Factor X1 B. Membership – You will be awarded 5 points for membership in SHRM or SAHRMA – Factor X1 C. Student Chapter Participation – You will be awarded points on active participation with local student chapter or SAHRMA events D. GPA – Sliding scale – 2.0 -2.4 = 1 pt; 2.5 – 2.9 = 2 pts; 3.0 – 3.4 = 3 pts; 3.5 – 4.0 = 4 pts; 4.0+ = 5pts E. Volunteer Activity – Factor X2 F. Essay – You will be scored on grammar, spelling, organization of the essay, documentation of the facts and how you state, support and defense of your position on your topic. You will not be scored on the position you take on your topic. – Factor X2 G. Additional factors – Any additional information the student feels that supports their commitment to the Human Resource field. – Factor X1
