A Soundtrack for your Book Date due: 31 October 2012

Imagine that you are now the producer for the soundtrack to: (YOUR BOOK TITLE): THE MOVIE. Your assignment is to create a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack for the movie that will enhance the finer points of the book.

Select ONE school appropriate song to match a scene from your book. Then, write a paragraph describing how the song relates to the book. This should include a quotation from which the selection was inspired. Create a CD booklet to display your song choice and your paragraph.

Requirements for the CD booklet:

A cover page with: - the title and author of your book - a picture (computer generated or hand-drawn) that illustrates some aspect of the book

1 CD Booklet Page with: - Song title and artist - An image (computer generated or hand-drawn) related to the scene where the song would take place - A well-developed paragraph explaining your song choice and reason why it is appropriate

Your Name - On the back side of the CD booklet

For the paragraph, follow the outline found on the next page to make sure you demonstrate your understanding of the scene and why the song choice is appropriate there. Use the model paragraph as a guide when you write your own paragraph.

Outline and Model Paragraph 1. Choose a key scene in the book where music might be appropriate. Briefly describe the scene, and include a citation, quote from the scene.

Example: In chapter 18 of Stargirl, Leo and Stargirl are completely enamored with one another. In fact, Leo feels like they are “…the only ones in school” (95). They wander through the hallways discovering new things about each other, and for the first time Leo knows he is living life 2. Explanation as to why music would be appropriate for this scene. Example. Music would be appropriate for this scene because it would add to the mood and attitude-change Leo is undergoing. 3. Name of the school-appropriate song you would choose to play during the scene (title and artist) Example. I chose John Mayer’s song, “No Such Thing” because the mood of the song is motivating and inspiring, mostly due to the lyrics. 4. Explanation of why you chose the song. Example: In the chorus of the song, Mayer sings, “I wanna run through the halls of my high school / I wanna scream at the top of my lungs / I just found out there’s no such thing as the real world / just a lie you got to rise above.” Example: These particular lines strike me as how Leo is probably feeling at this point in the novel after spending time with Stargirl. He is learning new things from her and wants to share them with the rest of the school. Leo’s notion of the “real world” has been shattered by Stargirl, and he’s ready to rise above the conformity of Mica High School.

Make sure your CD cover includes:

- the title and author of your book

- a picture (computer generated or hand- drawn) that illustrates some aspect of the book
