Summary

The Construction Labourer will be required to perform tasks involving physical labour at commercial construction projects, and will be required to operate a variety of hand and power tools. Responsibilities will include the cleaning and preparation of work-sites, cleaning up rubble and debris and removal of waste materials. Must be capable of operating a variety of equipment, which may include: jackhammers, drills, mechanical saws, etc.

Job Duties  Operate different size of jackhammers for concrete demolition;  Assist concrete finishers in placing concrete (including slope and swails);  Shovel concrete and other materials into portable mixers;  Apply caulking compounds by hand or using caulking guns;  Build and position forms for placing concrete, and dismantle after use;  Install waterproof joints and waterproofing membrane (HLM, neoguard, epoxy);  Perform pressure grouting (drilling grout holes and injecting suspension grout under pressure);  Dowel and tie-in rebar;  Able to sandblast, operate compressor, aid blaster;  Lubricate and clean equipment and tools;  Clean construction sites;  Load, unload materials, equipment and tools;  After excavation, spread and compact granular fill;  Build and dismantle temporary hoardings;  Grind, scrape, polish concrete surfaces using power tools;  Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.  Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.  Load, unload, and identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.  Provide assistance to craft workers, such as concrete finishers.  Perform demolition work.  Identify, pack, and transport hazardous materials in a safe manner  Read and interpret basic plans and specifications

Requirements  High School Diploma, GED or equivalent

Approved by management: November, 2015  2+ years of experience as a Construction Labourer  Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures  Knowledge of First Aid and CPR preferred  Fall Protection Certification an asset  Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner  Effective verbal and listening communications skills  Time management skills  Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary for construction  A valid Driver's license is an asset  Respect diversity – must be able treat others with respect and avoid unnecessary conflict.  Strong working knowledge of appropriate materials, methods, and the tools required in various construction processes, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.  Ability to readily determine the correct tools and equipment needed to do a job.  Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.  Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labour under adverse field conditions. Work Conditions  Job requires ability to work with tools, lumber and materials.  Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 50 lbs is required.  Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required  Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.  Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue  Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.  Noise level is generally loud.  Excellent stamina is required.  Potential hazards associated with the construction industry.  Must be able to work at high elevations, including on ladders, scaffolds, swing stages, or other equipment and use fall protection equipment
