MECHATRONICS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES Tuesday, February 9, 2016 * 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Columbia Tech Center, Room 202

Committee Chair Zeb Hallmark called the meeting to order at 6:07 p.m.

The October 20, 2015 minutes will be approved at the next meeting as there was no quorum present today.

Director/Division Chair Report – Chris Lewis

Enrollment strategies. Chris reported that enrollment is down. He has toured local high schools and has been invited back to speak about the program. He asked the committee members to let him know if they have any creative ideas to increase enrollment.

Advanced manufacturing. This is the SEH building in East Vancouver on 162nd. The space has been decreased and may not be the best solution. The north county property, where previously Health Occs was slated, could be where the advanced manufacturing will be. This is a five year plan. Committee members were asked to please forward ideas to Chris. Genevieve said the college will continue investing in a big way. The college is slated to get money to co-locate welding, machining, CADD. Zeb likes this, said having students cross-trained is a good idea. This will also will bolster their portfolio, enable more skills learning. Silviu spoke about Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). This is very big at his company right now. Suggests TPM knowledge class at Clark. Semiconductor companies are heading towards TPM.

Discussion led by Ken Luccini about vacuums and pumps, what to train students on.

Festo behind the scenes tour-Hanover, Germany. Gen and Chris have been invited to tour advanced manufacturing facilities in Germany, and attending a showcase fair. The trip has been approved. They will be flying off to Germany in April. Chris hasn’t received an agenda yet so not sure what companies they will visit. Germany is the heart of worldwide manufacturing. Genevieve added that the college is very serious about investing in advanced manufacturing.

Last committee meeting course changes from last meeting have moved forward.

1 Chris congratulated Ken Luccini for being recommended to confer tenure. On March 11, 2016 he will have a one on one with the board of trustees.

Work Plan:

Interns are working out great according to Zeb and Silviu. Possibly make some full time offers. Still need help with soft skills. Discussion about the current interns.

New Business Anne Koering has spoken with Woodland High School to come and tour the CTC facility. Also invited teachers, counselors, parents and siblings.

The annual capstone final presentations will happen June 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the MTX lab, CTC 103. Employers are invited, capstone students present their projects. This is the best opportunity for students to perfect their skills and present to potential employers.

Zeb summarized the meeting and thanked the members for coming.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. This meeting was adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
