Ms. Oakes’ Class News November 10, 2014

We continue to make strides with reading, writing, and math. Please continue to work with your child nightly to reinforce what he/she is learning at school. I am hoping that the writing sheet, the letter-sound sheet, and the flash cards are helping you help your child.

The Book Fair is this week. If you are sending money for it, please put the money in an envelope or baggie along with a note indicating what the money is for. Sometimes the children forget what it is for so it may not get to the correct place.

Veteran’s Day is Tuesday, November 11. There is no school. Don’t forget to always thank a serviceman , especially on Tuesday!

Sight Words What we are learning:

I sincerely apologize for not putting your child’s report card in his/her folder last Friday. It is in there today. Also, in an effort to always be able to get in touch with a parent or guardian in the case of an emergency, an informational sheet is enclosed which should be updated and returned or returned acknowledging no update is needed.

This Friday, November 7, a dance will be held in the gym from 2:40 to 5:00. Tickets will be $5 per child. The admission fee includes snacks and drinks. If you plan for your child to attend, please send a note to let me know your child will attend so that I can be sure he/she gets there. Otherwise, your child will be expected to go home the usual way.

In your child’s folder you will find a letter-sound chart, a writing template, and sight words we have been learning. Please use these items to practice each night. I believe these will help them tremendously.

Report cards will be issued October 31. I appreciate all the parents who have taken time out of their busy schedule to come meet with me. It was pleasure to meet each of you!

We are looking forward to our first field trip tomorrow. Homeland Creamery should be a unique experience for us. Don’t forget to send a lunch with your child if you did not sign up for the cafeteria lunch.

Report cards will be issued October 31. Prior to receiving your child’s report card, we must have a parent-teacher conference. I would like to do most of the conferences on Monday, October 27. Except for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., I am available any time that day. Please send a note to me if you have a preferred time for that day or if another day after school is better, please let me know immediately. I am looking forward to meeting with each of you.

On October 30 the first grade classes will be visiting Homeland Creamery in Julian. Homeland Creamery offers children the opportunity to experience how a cow is milked, a hayride, and to see how ice cream is made. Don’t forget to send the permission form, lunch choice, and money for the field trip immediately so we can plan accordingly.

The fall festival is October 25 from 5 to 8 pm. Plan to come out to enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship with other Andrews families. Should be an exciting time!

Most of the students are doing their homework nightly and returning it the next day! If your child is not doing his/her homework, he/she is missing a great opportunity to reinforce what they are learning at school. Please encourage your child to do his homework nightly. We will see a difference in their ability and growth!

Progress Reports will be sent home Wednesday, September 24. Please sign and return them the next day!

Most of the children seem to be adjusting well to their new Kindergarten environment. Please continue to talk about the importance of listening to their teachers and following directions throughout the day.

Homework will be placed in the sheet protector in your child’s folder each Monday through Thursday. It should be completed and returned the next day. In addition, please read with your child as much as possible. Let them point out the title, as well as letters or sight words we are studying.

We have physical education on Wednesdays. Please be sure your child wears appropriate clothing and shoes. Our lunch time is from 11:10 to 11:35. Feel free to join us anytime!

Don’t forget Wednesday, September 17, is an early release day!
