INTERPLASTIC CORPORATION is the leading manufacturer of unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and specialty resins, gel coats, colorants and putties under the CoREZYN® and Silmar® brand names for the composites, cast polymer, and solid surface industries. We currently have an exciting opening for a Chemist - Adhesives at our Minneapolis, Minnesota manufacturing facility. This position will support the existing Bonding Adhesive product line through product development, customer trials and audits, and manufacturing support.

Major Responsibilities:  Participate in laboratory work activities involving new materials evaluation, new product development, and new applications for existing products, matching of competitive products and services; accurate and timely record-keeping; and recommend direction of further laboratory efforts all while keeping safety the utmost priority.  Support Technical Service in addressing customer inquiries and providing product recommendations.  Obtain pertinent product performance data and keeping product Technical Data Sheets up to date.  Modify formulas for improved manufacturing and performance improvement opportunities.  Assist Manufacturing and Quality Control in optimizing production and preventing customer complaints.  Developing new products in response to requests from sales and the Product Manager.  Investigating new raw materials and processes in adhesive formulating.  Identifying suitable application and production equipment.  Maintain ownership of new products through scale up and commercialization activities.  Create and maintain necessary in house documentation such as formulas, Material Safety Data sheets and Technical Data Sheets.  Issue timely technical reports.  Train Technical Service and Sales staff as new products emerge.

Required:  A minimum of B.S. / B.A in chemistry or materials science.  Experience in formulating and testing of adhesives.  The ability to manage projects from inception to conclusion.  Experience with the use of Design of Experiments (DoE).  Good written and oral communication skills.  Self-starter and independent worker.  Experience in product scale up.  Good interpersonal skills.  Experience with 100% solids or high solids solvent based technology.  Knowledge of adhesion science and experience with thermoset resins adhesion to itself and dissimilar materials like metals and surface science.  Ability to travel to customers as required.
