Humorous Interp (HI) – This is an individual category and humorous in nature. HI usually includes 2-6 characters which enables the actor to find different voices, positions, and characteristics for each.
Dramatic Interp (DI) – This is an individual category and dramatic in nature. DI usually consists with 1-2 character(s).
Duo Interp (DUO) – This event is competed with a partner. The selection can be humorous, dramatic, or a combination of the two. In this event you may not touch each other nor look at each other.
Duet Interp (Duet) – This event, along with Duo, is competed with a partner. The selection can be humorous, dramatic, or a combination of the two. You may use two chairs in this event for set.
Original Oratory (OO) – This individual event consists of a self written speech concerning a current problem and solution. One must research the topic to be able to speak confidently and intelligently.

*Prose (PR) – This is an individual event where the speaker utilizes a small black binder to read their piece out of. The piece may be either dramatic, humorous, or both. (7 min long)
*Poetry (PO) – Same as Prose, but a poetic selection. (7 min long) General Expectations
Each member must attend at least 5 tournaments throughout the year (Does not include Grapevine Classic or the state tournament).
If you sign up for a tournament, you must attend and perform, failure to do so will result in drop fees.
You can not leave during tournaments, usually run from 3pm – 9pm on Friday and 6:30am - 10pm on Saturday.
Be open to constructive criticism from Mr. Hahn, as well as other peers.
Grapevine Classic
The Grapevine Classic is our annual tournament held by Grapevine High School for Debate and Oral Interpretation. This tournament is mandatory for every team member and cannot be completed without parent volunteers. We will need help with judging and hospitality to create a successful national tournament.

September 15th Judge Workshop @ 7pm in Room 905 (Ms. Boyd) Summer Camp
GHS Oral Interp Summer Camp is highly recommended to all members to attend to work on performance pieces for the upcoming year as well as a great time to meet the team!
Cost: $175 Date: July 19th – 23rd Time: 9am – 4pm Location: TBA

Tournament Apparel
Boys: Suits should be matching and well fitting
Shoes should be conservative professional dress shoes.
Undershirts are a must (No writing on shirt).
Socks MUST be black.
Dress shirts should remain conservative and match appropriately with tie and suit. (No buttons on collar)
A matching belt is required.
Hair should be kept short length. (Above ears and out of eyes)
Faces must remain clean shaven or be well kept. Keep ties conservative. No cartoon or crazy ties.
Girls:
2/3 in. black closed toed heels
Black pantyhose are required - (make sure and always have an extra pair!)
Suit skirt must match the suit jacket
Camisoles and shells must be worn in a sophisticated matter with a conservative neck line.
Hair should remain pinned back and out of your face during the entire tournament.
No jewelry. Stud earrings are allowed.
No distracting eyeliner or sparkly makeup --- eyeliner, mascara, blush, and lipstick (APPLIED CORRECTLY) is all you need.
No nail polish.
Kasper, J.C Penny’s, Ann Taylor Loft are some great places to look for an appropriate suit!
