U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, FORT WORTH DISTRICT BRUSHY CREEK RECREATION AREA

Brushy Creek Recreation Area at Lake O’ the Pines is a highly developed camping area located at the south shore of Lake O’ the Pines, just off FM 726. The park provides complete overnight camping facilities, with day-use facilities available in nearby Lakeside and Shady Grove Parks. A fee is charged for all campsites. Some campsites are available on a first come/first serve basis while other campsites may be reserved in advance by contacting the National Recreation Reservation Service. (See the back page for NRRS information.) The campground is open year around.

CAMPING AREA

Brushy Creek Campground provides developed campsites for recreational vehicles and tent campers with electricity and water. There are less developed areas specifically for tent camping without electricity.

There are 37 campsites in the tent camping areas. These campsites are located in wooded areas and are suitable for campers with tents only. Campsites in Tent Area T1 are highly developed and include a tent pad, picnic table, fire ring, lantern pole and access to a trash receptacle. Twelve sites in Tent Area T1 have electrical connection. Campsites in Tent Area 2 are less developed and include a picnic table, fire ring and access to trash receptacles. Potable water hydrants are located with both tent areas.

There are 61 campsites in the campground designated for recreational vehicle camping. Campsites for RVs have hard surfaced pads primarily for use by camper type vehicles or trailers. Some of these RV sites have tent pads and only on these sites will both RVs and tents be permitted. Each campsite provides a picnic table, fire ring, lantern pole, water hydrant, electrical connection, and access to a trash receptacle.

Two RV sewage/gray water dump stations are located in the park. One is located on the entrance road to the park, and the other is located on the road leading away from the boat ramp.

Four restroom facilities are provided for the above camping areas. Each restroom has flush toilets. Three of the facilities are classified as washhouses and have showers in addition to toilets.

A lifetime Golden Age Passport entitles those persons 62 years of age or older to a 50 percent reduction in federal recreation fees. A Golden Access Passport is available to disabled persons entitling them to a 50 percent reduction in federal recreation fees. These permits are issued during regular business hours, 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., at the Project Office located near the dam or at another federal recreation area office. DAY USE AREAS

Day-use facilities can be found in adjacent Shady Grove Park and at nearby Lakeside Park which is located off of the dam. Both areas have individual picnic sites with picnic tables and cooking grills, multi-lane concrete boat ramp with courtesy docks, designated protected swimming areas, and half basketball courts. Lakeside Park also has a sand volleyball court. Restroom facilities with flush toilets are also provided in this area. A fee is charged for the day-use of the parks. The group pavilions may be rented by making a reservation at the Project Office located near the dam. The group pavilions have picnic tables, a covered cooking grill, and electricity.

SWIMMING

A designated protected swimming area with a beach is found in the Brushy Creek Campground near RV Area E1. There are no lifeguards provided and swimming is at the user’s own risk. Swimming is not permitted at boat ramps or docks.

FISHING

A floating fishing pier is provided near Tent Area T2. This facility is for fishing only. No mooring of boats or swimming is allowed from this pier.

BOATING

Brushy Creek Campground has one multi-lane concrete launching ramp. The Lake O’ the Pines brochure of the reservoir should be consulted for identification of cleared areas suitable for water skiing and high speed boating. Boaters should beware that original tree lines and above surface stumps decay and recede below the water’s surface creating hazards that are not readily visible. Boat lanes within the wooded portion of the reservoir are not completely free of obstructions and are marked for accessibility only. Always proceed with caution because lakes are constantly changing.

SECURITY

Access into the campground is through a controlled gate attendant station. A gate attendant will be on duty between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. the entrance gate will be closed. The attendant will be available should an emergency arise. Uniformed park rangers make periodic patrols through the campgrounds and day-use areas. Visitor protection is provided by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department Lake Patrol.
