Subject leaders of the following curriculum areas: Geography/Environmental Systems History/Politics Mathematics/Numeracy across the curriculum Biology Chemistry Physics/Science Coordinator Sociology/Theory of Knowledge/Philosophy ICT/E-Learning Reporting To Headteacher Responsible For Middle leaders, staff with cross-school responsibilities, teaching staff, other relevant personnel and students within the school as specified separately by the Headteacher Liaising With Headteacher, Leadership Team, middle leaders, Student Support Services and relevant staff with cross-school responsibilities, relevant non-teaching support staff, parents, carers and Governors Contract Type Full time Disclosure Level Enhanced Other main duties
Operational . To strengthen the school’s organisational capacity by contributing effectively to designated aspects of its day-to-day management. . To contribute to supervising and leading all staff to ensure the effective operation of the school. . To line manage specified middle leaders, working with them to monitor the overall quality of the school’s provision in meeting the needs of all students. . To contribute to the implementation of school policies and procedures. . To ensure as part of the School’s Senior Leadership Team that the work done in the school fully reflects its distinctive ethos and the School Development Plan. . To ensure that Health and Safety policies and practices, including risk assessments, are in line with national requirements and are updated where necessary.
Curriculum area . To help lead and manage the work of specified middle leaders to ensure line management the delivery of an appropriate, comprehensive, high quality and cost-effective curriculum programme which complements the School Development Plan. . To work with specified middle leaders to maintain accreditation with the relevant examination and validating bodies. . To work with specified middle leaders to manage the available resources of space, staff, money and equipment efficiently within the limits, guidelines and procedures laid down; including deploying the budget, acting as a cost centre holder, requisitioning, organising and maintaining equipment and stock, and keeping appropriate records.
Staff development, . To work with other members of the Senior Leadership Team to ensure recruitment and that staff development needs are identified and met deployment . To contribute to monitoring the efficient and effective deployment of teaching and non teaching staff to meet the school’s vision and aims. . To undertake Performance Management Review(s) as required. . To participate in the interview process for staff posts when required . To promote teamwork and to motivate staff to ensure effective working relationships
Quality Assurance: . To collaborate as a member of the School Leadership Team in order to build a shared vision of excellence and high standards for all students. . To contribute to raising standards of student attainment and achievement by monitoring the effectiveness of teaching and learning within a number of curriculum areas . To contribute to the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of behavioural standards . To lead designated aspects of regular school self-review and to strive for continuous improvement in all aspects of the school’s work. . To contribute to the school’s procedures for lesson observation. . To implement school quality assurance procedures.
Management . To make use of data analysis to evaluate performance of designated Information: aspects of school work . To identify and take appropriate action on issues arising from data, systems and reports; setting deadlines where necessary and reviewing progress on the action taken. . To produce reports for designated areas of responsibility where required. . To contribute to providing the Governing Body with relevant information relating to the School’s performance and development. Communication . To ensure that all members of staff are familiar with the school’s aims and objectives. . To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with the school’s students and their parents/carers . To liaise effectively and pro-actively with partner schools, higher education, industry and other relevant external bodies. . To lead assemblies. . To lead meetings.
Marketing and . To ensure that the school liaison and marketing activities provide a Liaison: positive view of its work to the wider community. . To contribute to the development of links with partner schools and the community, attendance where necessary at liaison events in partner schools and the effective promotion of the school.
Pastoral duties and . To help to lead and manage the development of provision within the line management specified key stage. . To contribute to developing a safe, secure and healthy environment within the school as a whole. . To contribute to and implement the school’s policy on rewards, sanctions and support so that effective learning. . To monitor and support the overall progress and development of all students in the designated key stage in line with the school’s policies on providing inclusive education.
Teaching . To undertake an appropriate programme of teaching in accordance with (approximately 1/3 the duties of a standard scale teacher. timetable) . To assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies in the curriculum area and subject area. . To contribute to the curriculum area and subject area’s development plan and its implementation. . To attend all appropriate meetings. . To plan and prepare courses and lessons. . To contribute to the whole School’s planning activities. . To teach students according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the student in School and elsewhere. . To assess, record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of students and to keep such records as are required. . To provide, or contribute to, oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual students and groups of students. . To ensure that ICT, Literacy, Numeracy and school subject specialisms are reflected in the learning experience of students. . To undertake a designated programme of teaching. . To ensure a high quality learning experience for students. . To maintain discipline in accordance with the school’s procedures and to encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework. . To undertake assessment of students as requested by external examination bodies, subject area and school procedures. . To mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required. Additional Duties: To undertake whole school duties. To continue own personal development as agreed at appraisal and to engage actively in the performance review process. To address the appraisal targets set by the line manager. To undertake any other duty as specified by School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Body (STPCB) not mentioned in the above. To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive aim and ethos and to encourage staff and students to follow this example. To support the school in meeting its legal requirements for worship. To promote actively the school’s corporate policies. To comply with the school’s Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate. To show a record of excellent attendance and punctuality. To adhere to the School’s policies.
