D. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION AND SCHOOL RELATED ORGANIZATIONS Individuals or groups who wish to speak to the Board will be recognized as set forth in the Board agenda. After recognition, the spokesperson must identify himself and the topic on which he wishes to speak. Generally, the presentation will be limited to five minutes. The chair reserves the right to limit the number of individuals or groups who will be recognized to speak. Individuals and groups are encouraged to bring their concerns to the attention of the members of the Board or the appropriate employees of the school district in a timely fashion in between meetings to provide an opportunity to address them in a timely fashion. If several people wish to speak, each person will be allotted three minutes until the total time of 30 minutes is used. During that period, no person may speak twice until all who desire to speak have had the opportunity to do so. The period of public participation may be extended by a vote of the majority of the board. Each person addressing the Board will give his name and address. Persons desiring more time should follow the procedure of the Board to be placed on the regular agenda. Board Policy: KD

3 CONSENT AGENDA Resolution #035-15

1. MINUTES

Recommend approval of the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting held on February 24, 2015 as submitted by the Treasurer. Attachment Pgs. 8 thru 12

2. TREASURER’S RECOMMENDATIONS

Recommend approval of the financial packet for February 2015 as submitted by Mr. Steenrod.

Recommend that we approve the contract with Ohio University Athletic Training Services for the 2015-2016 school year in the amount of $9,650.00.

3. RETIREMENT

Recommend that we accept, with regret, the retirement of John Aylesworth at the end of the 2014-2015 school year after 31 years with the District.

4. EMPLOYMENT

Recommend that we employ Greg Wilfong as assistant softball coach for the 2014- 2015 school year.

5. TRZ CONTRACT RENEWAL

Recommend that we enter into a three (3) year contract beginning July 1, 2015 and ending June 30, 2018 with TRZ Communications for our PreK-12 phone notification system at a cost of $1.25 per student (all staff calls will be free this contract).

6. SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS AND AIDES

Recommend approval of the following substitute teachers and aides as recommended by Rick Edwards, Athens-Meigs Educational Service Center Superintendent:

8. RESOLUTION CONCERNING CHARTER SCHOOLS

Recommend approval of the Resolution asking General Assembly and Governor to change state law to ensure greater accountability and oversight for Ohio Charter Schools Attachment Pg.15

Mr. Green moved and Mr. Elasky seconded the adoption of Units of Study in Opinion, Informational, and Narrative Writing by Lucy Calkins and the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project as a part of the Language Arts curriculum for grades K through 8 as recommended by the Language Arts Curriculum Committee.

Mr. Young moved and Mr. McGuire seconded that we approve the 2015-2016 school calendar as submitted by the Superintendent Attachment Pg. 15 Vote: Mr. Torrence Yes, Mr. Elasky Yes, Mr. Green Yes, Mr. McGuire Yes and Mr. Young Yes. Motion Passed.

Resolution #038-15

Mr. Elasky moved and Mr. Green seconded that we approve the modifications to the 2014- 2015 school calendar as recommended by the administrative staff. Attachment Pg. 16 Vote: Mr. Elasky Yes, Mr. Green Yes, Mr. McGuire Yes, Mr. Torrence Yes and Mr. Young Yes. Motion Passed.

Resolution #039-15

Mr. McGuire moved and Mr. Torrence seconded that we employ Cathe Blower as Amesville Elementary School principal at a salary of $68,000 commencing upon receipt of a valid principal’s license or assurance of said license form the Ohio Department of Education (salary to be pro-rated for the rest of the 2014-2015 school year) thru June 30, 2017.

Resolution #040-15

Mr. Green moved and Mr. Young seconded that we transfer $3,640 from (001) General Fund to (200-9810) High School Yearbook fund.

6 FEDERAL HOCKING LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT RESOLUTION WHEREAS, it is the goal of the Federal Hocking Local Board of Education to promote academic excellence in the schools, and WHEREAS, this Board of Education recognizes the sacrifices and dedicated effort necessary to accomplish this goal, and WHEREAS, those students having achieved this goal for the fourth six-weeks of the 2014-2015 school year by being on the Federal Hocking Middle School Honor Roll, deserve special recognition for their accomplishment. Make up days plan:

1. Any calamity day prior to January 29 will be made up on Friday, Feb. 12 2. The next four calamity days will be waived by the Board. 3. Any additional days will be made up by either student attendance days or staff development days as determined by the district administration.

Additional days for students We would add three days for students, those being May 26, 27, and 28. Graduating seniors would not attend on these days.

Additional days for staff development By adding three student attendance days the scheduled Staff Work Day would move to May 29th and the scheduled Professional Development days (for all staff)2 would become June 1, 2, and 3. We would add two more staff work days, June 4 and 5.

If we miss any additional days after March 6th, we will add student make up days and the staff work days will simply move forward. (Example: If we were to miss one more day, May 29th would become a student attendance day and staff work days would move to June 2-8.

1 Amesville missed an additional ½ day, but as many teachers were already at school, the reco mmendation is that we not have that individual school make up that day. 2 These days are required workdays for all 9 month employees.
