PROGRAM
Objectives:
1. To improve participants’ English by using a variety of approaches including classes, workshops and cultural visits.
2. To update participants on education, culture, & trends in the UK and encourage participants to learn more about UK culture.
3. To promote links and further the European Dimension in education.
In Advance:
—each participant should practice speaking and reading in English
—each participant should choose 2 photos from home to discuss in the UK (These can show themselves or their school or their home or region.)

Amanda has 14 years’ experience of teaching English as a foreign language in the UK, Germany, France and Italy and currently works as a part-time lecturer in ESOL/EFL (English as a foreign language) at Brighton City College where she has worked for four years. She has taught all levels, including beginners, intermediate and upper intermediate and exam courses for IELTS, First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced, and ESOL: E1, E2, E3 and Level 1. Amanda also works as an Independent International Education Consultant as well as doing freelance work for the British Council and is a British Council Ambassador. She has been a member of the UK Global Learning Association since it began in the 1990s. Amanda previously worked for East Sussex County Council in the School Improvement Service for 18 years as the consultant to schools for Modern Foreign Languages and International Links, promoting, advising and supporting schools in developing an international dimension in the curriculum. She facilitated school linking with schools in other countries, advised on joint projects and funding and arranged international professional development opportunities for teachers and head teachers, such as group exchanges and work-shadowing in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Alaska. She led groups on visits abroad and organised and led programs in the UK for groups of teachers visiting from other countries. She has nearly 20 years’ experience of running training courses for classroom teachers, international co-ordinators and head teachers in the field of international education and has organised and presented at regional and international conferences. Having lived and worked in 5 countries and speaking 4 languages, Amanda is passionate about international education and language learning and strongly believes in the importance of international work and languages in schools and their role in broadening the outlook of young people , giving a global context to their learning and preparing them for life in a global society. Sara Dibb is an art historian and educator with experience of working with GLA groups from abroad to raise their confidence with English. Sara Dibb is an art expert and historian who is a gallery educator. She works in London in a number of important galleries to educate people about the exhibitions and the meaning of art. Sara has worked with groups of EU teachers for a number of years when they visit Londn to 6 improve their English. Thinking about art and our feelings toward specific art pieces and expressing those feelings with words, poems and games can make us think about language and improve our confidence to use it. Her language tasks can also be used with English language pupils once participants return home. Chris Souvlis has many years’ experience working for both the British Council and for schools and Universities in England with international links. Chris worked for The British Council from 1999 to 2010, helping deliver a range of education programs as diverse as the Fulbright US/ UK teacher exchange program and the Comenius Universities and Schools European Partnerships and In-service visits. He managed the 2-Week Primary Teachers Project, for the Teacher Development Agency and Department of Children, Schools and Families, to support the delivery of school languages at Key Stage 2. Since 2010, he has continued to support teacher in-service training abroad, working every half term with training centres in Spain and France to deliver EU funded, language courses for teachers. Initially, he supported funding applicants and teacher participants from the boroughs of Southwark, Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Lewisham, where he led the South London Schools International Support Network. Lately, he has worked supporting International links and projects across the UK, including in Southend, Essex and London. He has contributed to the Coordination &/ or Evaluation of 6 large scale European projects in recent years, (see: www.ola-regio.com, www.PHWB-project.com) hosted visits for international groups to the UK and led training at home and abroad. He most recently coordinated a 3 country cross sectoral Erasmus+ project from 2015 to 2017, leading schools and Universities in the UK, Greece and Spain as they developed teacher training materials related to Pupil Well-being. He has coordinated many GLA Erasmus+ KA1 courses in the UK for educators from other EU countries. He has been deputy Chair of the Global Learning Association since 2015.
