RESOLUTION by the industriAll Europe Executive Committee Brussels, 9-10 June 2015

(Document adopted by the 6th Meeting of the industriAll Europe Executive Committee Brussels, 9-10 June 2015)

The Executive Committee of industriAll Europe met in Bussels on 9 and 10 June 2015.The Executive Committee took note of the fact that thousands of workers in several companies in the Turkish metal industry have gone on strike in recent weeks.

The workers have four main demands: 1. They want to choose their union freely; 2. They want to elect their own representatives and shop stewards; 3. They want a guarantee that no one will be dismissed because of these demonstrations and demands; 4. They want to be paid a living wage that provides for a decent living standards.

These workers demand rights which are covered by fundamental International labour Organisation (ILO) conventions.

IndustriAll Europe will not accept that workers are dismissed or be subject to any other sanction because they are putting forward these fair demands and joining the strikes. We urge companies such as Renault, Valeo, Fiat, Magnetti Marelli, Ford, CNH, Johnson Controls and others not to dismiss workers and to respect their fair demands. We would also like to condemn any sort of act of violence against the workers.

For industriAll Europe it is essential that the right for every worker to choose their own union freely is guaranteed, by any party. In case of disputes, a system of election should be put in place to give workers the right to express their opinion about their choice of trade union, as has already been proposed several times by the ILO Committee of Freedom of Association.

We stand in solidarity with the metalworkers in their resistance and will strongly oppose any intervention, violence against or dismissals of the workers. We will communicate with the headquarters of any companies where this occurs. We will also inform our trade union company networks and European Works Council members in those companies about the current situation in Turkey.
