Old business 34 Curriculum Task Force and EPC Recommendations – As decided in 9/23/05 meeting, 35 an e-mail was sent out to all EPC members to vote on the following: 36  CBS policy on AP credits (for CBS students: AP Biology scores 37 of 3, 4, or 5 would be acceptable for 3 credits of biology elective 38 but not count as introductory biology.) 39  New lower division course recommendations 40 Results of e-mail vote on both issues were 7 yes, 0 no, and 3 abstentions. 41 42 In addition, during the meeting, the question of CLEP and IB credits came up 43 because Craig Swan asked CBS (through John Anderson) to engage CBS in 44 discussion of CLEP credits. The motion was made and seconded: For CBS 45 students, we will treat CLEP and IB just like AP in that the biology 46 courses/exams would count for 3 credits of biology elective, not for 47 introductory biology. Motion passed. Questions about CIS (College in the 48 Schools) came up and Jean Underwood volunteered to find out more information 49 and bring it to an upcoming EPC meeting. 50 51 BiolC 3021 Prerequisite discussion was tabled because neither Robin Wright nor Paul 52 Siliciano were present. 53 543. New business 55 Four courses were considered. 56  Biol 1101: approved unanimously with a suggested name change. Jane 57 Phillips sent the information to Janet Schottel who had forwarded the course 58 to the Committee. 59  Biol 5XXX, Bioinformatics: approved unanimously pending consultation 60 with other departments. Sue Wick will follow up on this. 61  PBio 4601, Plant Biochemistry: approved unanimously with suggested 62 changes to Florence Gleason. Sue Wick will follow up on this. 63  MicB 5XXX, Eukaryotic Microbiology: approved unanimously with 64 suggested changes to go to Leslie Schiff for followup. Jane Phillips sent these 65 to her. 66 674. Other 68 After using the new form for 4 course requests, the Committee had a few changes to 69 suggest: 70  Course proposals should include schedule of topics covered and 71 bibliography. 72  Change the wording on the “grading basis” to make it clear that this only 73 applies to courses that are concurrently 4XXX and 5XXX. 74  Contact list needs updating. 75  Delivery mode is not as helpful as having a space that asks the number of 76 lectures, labs, and recitations per week. 77  A few typos were noted. 78 These were forwarded to Robin Wright by Jane Phillips. 79 80 An announcement of a new Undergraduate Seminar, Biol 3700, Research 81 Presentation Skills, was presented. The Committee asked that a note be added that 82 this course is not intended for Honors students and can’t be taken for credit if Biol 83 3960H has been taken. This was forwarded to Robin Wright. 84 85Respectfully submitted, 86Jane Phillips
