Mustang Flyer 2-16-17
Dear MPE, This week we had the pleasure of honoring our 2017 Teacher of the Year, Trisha Daniel and our 2017 Employee of the Year, Rashidah Thomas. We congratulate these fine professionals on this wonderful accomplishment. Thank you to Mathnasium for helping us to celebrate our “Of the Years” with t-shirts and gift cards. We appreciate their partnership with MPE! Congratulations to Ms. Daniel and Ms. Thomas! Congratulations also to our outstanding finalists for this process; teachers Carrie Stahl and Sara Clark and employees Susan Loomer and Vicky Jaksic. We are so fortunate to have these folks and many more super-stars on our staff. Thank you for the great support at Lucia’s Spirit Night last week. We earned over $500.00 for the school! This was our most successful Spirit Night every! Thank you so much to Lucia’s and to all who attended! PLEASE check the lost and found. It is literally overflowing. Please stop by and check for missing hoodies, jackets, sweatshirts, etc. On the topic of lost items, there was a Chevy key fob found in the parking lot a couple of weeks ago. No one has claimed it. Please let the office know if you are missing one. Enjoy the long weekend! Take care, Stacy Perlman Principal Be Alert for Flu-like Symptoms From the clinic: Some of our students in the school have been experiencing flu-like illness. The symptoms include: fever, sore throat, chills, runny or stuffy nose, coughing, muscle or body aches, headaches, tiredness, and, in some cases, diarrhea and/or vomiting. If your child is exhibiting these symptoms, please contact your physician. There are actions you can take to help reduce your exposure to the flu. Prevention is certainly the best intervention when combatting the spread of any illness, whether it is the common cold, flu or something more serious. The following are everyday actions to stay healthy: Wash hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners/hand sanitizers are also effective. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. If no tissue is available, cover your mouth and nose into your upper sleeve, not your hands. Avoid close contact with sick people. Keep sick children at home until their illness has run its course and as recommended by a health care provider. Have your family vaccinated against the seasonal flu. Should your child be diagnosed with the flu or be experiencing flu-like symptoms, please contact the school clinic at 470-254-9756 so we can maintain records. We hope this information is helpful. However, it is not meant for self-diagnosis or as a substitute for consultation with a health care provider. Thank you very much. Mustang Café Celebrates Taste Wednesday Submitted by Susan Juers As a part of our Shape Grant, students will have the opportunity to participate in a taste test of a healthy fruit or vegetable each month. The 5th graders used design thinking in P.E. classes to develop a prototype for the taste tests. On Wednesday, February 15th, all students had the opportunity to try some fresh Rockin’ Broccoli on their way into the cafeteria. Please ask your student if they tried it and if they liked it!
