TEST 3 STUDY QUESTIONS/TAKE HOME EXAM Spring, 2013 Dr. Scott Stewart
You have a choice regarding your third assignment.
Option (1): You can write the test in class this Thursday morning, May 30, from 9-11. The test will have exactly the same structure as your first two tests and will consist of three sections. In the first section, you will be asked to do some ‘fill in the blank’ questions. In Section 2, you will have to answer two ‘short answer’ questions (of a paragraph or two each). The third section will require you to write one long essay of approximately five pages, double-spaced. The questions provided below will help you prepare for that essay. Two of the three questions below will appear on your test, and you will have to answer one of them. Your long essay must be written as an essay paying attention to spelling, grammar, and logical and coherent flow of your ideas. The test will cover all material covered since the first test., i.e, Chapters 3, 4, 6, and 11as well as the film, Orgasm, Inc.
Option (2): You can write a take home exam that must be passed in no later than 11 am this Thursday, May 30. For the take home, you must answer two of the three questions below using the instructions given above in option 1 for Section 3. Though you may study with others, your test must be your own work. Some people opted to answer the question about sex and marriage on the last take home test despite the fact that we hadn’t covered it yet in class. People who did so can NOT answer question 1 below, ie., they must answer questions 2 and 3.
1. Give detailed accounts of the arguments Gallagher puts forward that we should not allow same sex couples to marry and the arguments that Corvino provides against Gallagher’s position.
2. Critically evaluate the issue of female genital cutting/mutilation. Should western, developed, democratic states endorse such practices either in countries where it is practiced or in our own countries?
3. Ought we to consider BDSM a morally legitimate set of sexual activities?
